Yucky smell around dishwasher/kitchen sink

There's this odor that I can't quite place coming from our dishwasher/kitchen sink area (they are next to each other so I can't tell for sure whether it's one or both emitting the odor). There are rarely dirty dishes left in the sink and the dishwasher is run weekly (as we only run it when it's full)...but it's not a food smell - more like a stale water smell (or, I fear, something died in the pipes but I think this is highly unlikely).

Any ideas on how to get rid of this smell?

it might be your drains?? my laundry had a funky smell so I cleaned the drains and the smell went. I used drain-o but you can use vinegar and bicarb

I was going to suggest the same thing, the drians might be a bit blocked. I also used Drain-O as the vinigar wasn't cutting through it.
