I don't know why I don't what to do this time but I thought I'd ask for a bit of advice on here...
2 1/2 year old, been coughing the last few nights, not too bad but sounded chesty.
4am this morning woke up with a small thick vomit (was like maybe it was caused by his coughing), he really wanted another bottle of milk so we decided to give in and he downed that and then 20 minutes later brought it back up and has been vomiting ever since. he hasn't had anything to eat since that bottle at 4am, been drinking a little but that doesn't stay down either. Since 7am his vomit has basically be the liquid that he has drunk and phlegm, then phlegm & dry reaching. Diarrhea has started but there isn't a lot in his nappy since the first one just extremely stinky. He seems to get hot and throw off his blanket (his prized possession) and then want it 20 minutes later... he's looking rather pale and not himself at all... been laying down all day, between the couch and his bed, he's twice has a burst of energy with smiles and looks like he's going to go back to his normal self but then it disappears as fast as it comes
Normally he is a happy sick child... the ones that don't look sick so you never get taken serious, running around and really on top of the world no mater how much pain he is in... maybe that's why I need some advice...
I'd take him hun... can't hurt to get him checked out, especially if it's been a few days & he doesn't seem to be getting better.
Hope he's better soon
ETA - if he's getting hot - does he have a fever? If the kids run a temp at the start of an illness I tend to not worry too much, But if it comes on after they've been sick for a bit, I worry about infection (ear, chest etc)
sounds like the muscous has made it's way to his tummy. That can cause vomiting and the change in bowel habit. What did the phlem look like?
The fact he is lethargic, pale and going from hot to cold sounds like he might have an infection going on. I'd get him checked out. Poor little man. And poor you - you've had a run lately! Hope he feels better soon.
Hmmm, I would be inclined to wait, unless you think there's something the GP can do. It could be a 24 hour type of bug, and it's not been that long yet. Really important to keep him hydrated (with Gastrolyte etc), but there's probably not much else a Dr can do for you. And I hate to say this, but it saves spreading what is a possibly a contagious tummy bug around.
Having said that, you're his mum, and you will know best. If you think he needs medical attention, then by all means take him, but if not, then maybe wait and see if he's better tomorrow. Good luck, it can be really hard to know what to do.
ETA Okay, sounds like I'm a bad mummy, I'd go with the nurse's advice LOL!
Took him to the GP cause his stomach looked strange when he was breathing... it looked like it was vibrating when he breathed out... and the fact his lips were dry (never happened before).
Was told he has a middle ear infection but also something else going on... was told to take him home, give him a sip of drink every 10 minutes and if he wee'd in the next two hours to take him to the ER.
I know he hasn't wee'd since at least 9am but don't remember changing a wet nappy at all since before bed last night... the diarrehea at 9am was such a mess I couldn't tell if he was wet or not.
Poor little dude is not himself at all... not even his sickself...
