    Croup? Asthma?

    Hi everyone,

My DD has always had alittle bit of a cough at night. For the past week she at night she will start coughing- not a distressed cough, not wet- just a dry cough. It rarely wakes her and after a maybe 5 minute coughing episode (not violent coughing)she won't cough again for the rest of the night. she is otherwise symptom free. She does not cough at all during the day and has no temp, has an appetite and is her normal self.

It has worried me alittle- I was thinking maybe asthma? Dry throat at night?

Anyway DH mentioned it to the receptionist at work today and she told him that our DD has Croup and we should get it checked immediately DH has just called me, majorly stressed, saying to take the baby to hospital....

So here I am as cool as a cucumber thinking- well DD is immunised, symptom free, happy baby and DH is freaking out.

So- does croup develope overtime or is it an acute onset? Does this sound like asthma to anyone?

I have made an appointment anyway for Monday JIC..

    TIA

In my experience croup only lasts a few days and it kinda sounds like a bark or a seal. it has a very different sound.

from what i remember when my brother had croup is that is came on pretty fast... he'd cough violently and it was a really bark hacking kind of cough. he'd also get a temp and sometimes he'd spew up mucous and have breathing troubles. Trust me, if she had croupe you would know straight away. he has asthema too and coughs randomly, not really at a particular time tho.

How does she go to bed? does she feed to sleep? Occassionally DS will have a little bit of a cough once he goes down, he's fed to sleep and I'm 99.99999% sure his cough is caused by a little bit of regurged milk that's come up. You can't really hear anything there, or anything shifting but it's just like... a little cough.
