My beautiful 8 month old pooch has conjunctivitis or something similar wrong with her I am trying to get it under control fast, as we are going away on Wednesday for a few days and she will be staying with friends.
Does anybody have any suggestions or home remedies that they have found effective with pink eye?
At the moment I am just flushing/wiping eyes with lukewarm water regularly. The eyes themselves look fine really, but one eye is pink and sore-looking all around the outside and the fur is a bit more patchy. Little bit more eye muck on that eye than usual, but not much. If not improved by Monday will have to go the vet.
It could be an infection under the third eyelid! Lots of puppies get it. You have to get some special cream/drops from the vet. It can get quite nasty, so it's important to get to it as soon as possible.
Our girl gets weepy eyes and quite hayfever-y with the change of seasons, and sometimes it turns into full blown conjuctive itis. When it does we always go to the vet and get cream as their eyes are so important. Our vet did say we could try wiping them with cooled down tea bags when we first see signs, and it may keep it at bay, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't! We've come to accept it's a part of who she is
I second Raupe's thoughts, it could be an infection and they can get nasty quite quickly.... your vet will get it under control fast if given the chance and you'll be able to enjoy your trip away without worrying.
Thanks... I've looked up the things you suggested an seen lots of pics and info.
Pretty sure after examining my pups symptoms again this morning that it is DEMODICOSIS. Minuscule mites that live in the hair follicles. That fits with the patches of hair loss and pinky skin, especially since I found another little patch on her snout and one on her leg. Apparently it is common in pups under 18 months and can take up to three months to disappear, kind of an immune issue, and 90% recover fully and never have symptom again.
All dogs carry the mites, some just have a reaction that shows up.
Yeah I will definitely take her to the Vet tomorrow just to be sure!
