Help anyone else had slow response with FSH stimulation then had success with cycle??

Hi i am a poor responder in the middle of my down regulated cyle, today was day 16 i have been stimming for about 13 days on gonal f 900 p/day!
My follicles have been slow off the mark and my FS wanted to cancel today but i said i wanted to continue as i have 7 follicles growing, he said that he would want them to be bigger by now and the quality may not be great??
I now have another scan on Friday so praying that these guys grow a little bigger so i can have pick up on monday?
I couldnt bear the thought of another cancelled cycle as my last one was cancelled and the one before that had no result.
I really felt that this cycle was going to be it, felt so good physically and mentally.
AArgh just so frustrating this road..
I am just curious if anyone has had a similar situation to this and had any success at all, or if anyone has any tips on how to make the follies grow faster????
    Thanks

    Hi Blossom.
Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time. My first cycle was also cancelled due to lack of response. It is so disappointing. I was 39 then (40 now) so I think it's partially related to our age, unfortunately.
How large were your follicles at the last scan?

I don't know of anything that can make the follicles grow faster (apart from FSH), although there are some suggestions that a gluten-free diet may help fertility (though the mechanism seems to be complex and not well understood).

Good luck for Friday, and keep us posted!

hi JustJuice it is so frustrating!!! The follies where around 15mm??? So they are hoping to see them grow about 2mm each day or else cancel? Im just taking a punt really hoping that there may be a good one amongst them as we could get to collection and none of them be good quality.. Just unsure now of what to do even if they have grown as maybe i am kidding myself at the moment and am a bit desperate just to do a cycle?
    See what Friday brings!
Good luck to you too x

    Hi Ladies,

I am not sure if this is where I should post this question or not.

I am going through my first round of IVF and today is day 9 of injections. I went to the FS this morning for a scan and was told there was not much activity happening. He didn't even measure what he could see as far as follicles. He said we will wait and see what is happening on Monday when I go for another scan which will be day 12.

I am scheduled to have the EPU on the Wednesday (day 14) but he said we might have to push it back to the Friday.

Have any of you been through this and had success?

I am feeling really low at the moment, I really thought this was going to be our turn.

Hi NellyM, i am on day 20 of my cycle which is a down regulated one and on Monday my FS told me to cancel as things wherent progressing as he would have liked, i said no i didnt want to and to give my 7 follicles a chance and today had another scan and have been given the go ahead for pick up on Monday so things can change.
Stay positive as hard as it can be and trust that all will be ok.
Good luck to you and your dh x

That's great news, Blossom! Good luck for Monday!

NellyM...same thing happened to me on my first cycle. It's really a stab in the dark for the first cycle - your FS doesn't know how you'll respond until you have done so. After the first cycle your FS should have a better idea of the most appropriate dose of medications for you (although for your sake I hope you are successful on your first cycle!)

    Thanks Blossom and Juice,

Well the cycle was cancelled today, they told me the follicles I did have had not progressed enough and becasuse I had heaps of little ones if they put up the dose it was highly likely I would hyperstimulate.

So we are out for this month.

Hi sorry to hear your cycle was cancelled! AFM i went for pick up on Monday and they only retrieved one egg which was of bad quality, devastating!
I know it was worth a shot but if they tell you there not growing well they are probably right so put all your energy into the next cycle.

Hi ladies hope you don't mind me popping in here.
I too am a poor responder, I've had the last 2 cycles cancelled.
Hopefully 3rd time lucky for me, have epu on Thursday.
The FS wanted to cancelled me again but we have decided to press on. Don't know if this will end in misery or happiness.

So sorry Blossom its alot to go through with no result, we had decided before this cycle it would be our last.

Good luck to both of you

Thanks ladies, as difficult as it was that we cancelled, I am kinda glad for the break. We will try again next year, probs around Feb.

I am interested to know from those of you who have had multiple cancelled cycles, have they changed the protocol between each cycle?

My first cycle was cancelled, although I did make it to EPU and had 4 eggs collected. However, none fertilised so didn't get any further for that one. Subsequently my FS increased my dose of Gonal F. I've now done 7 cycles (if you count 1xIUI and 1xFET) and the protocol has been quite different in every cycle, although most of the time I've still been on Gonal F 450. I've had different things introduced, such as Luveris injections, which I remember because I think that was my most successful cycle (most eggs fertilised). There seems to be quite a few different protocols that can be tried, so if it's appropriate I'm sure your FS will change it. As for me, I will try one more cycle with my current FS as she wants to try steroids and Clexane, but if I have no success with that I'm going to change FS. So if you find yourself at a dead end trying the same thing over and over again without success, you also might want to consider a second opinion.

Hi all, just been reading your stories, sorry to hear about the cancelled cycles... I think my frozen embryo transfer maybe cancelled too! Had scan last Friday and FS said my follicles quite small (10mm), though to start BT's on Tuesday. Well day two and clinic phoned and advised no need to have any further tests, but couldn't say why, the doctor will phone me tomorrow (currently day 14 of a 30 day cycle). I can't wait for that phone call, I want to know now!! Has anyone had a natural FET? It's great no injections or drugs, but this waiting still frustrating...

    Thanks again Juice and Sweetie,

    I have another questin.

As soon as they cancelled my cycle they told me to go straight on the pill, that was 2 days ago. I have started getting pain around my ovaries, is it possible they are still growing? I have been summoned to the FS's office on Monday for a scan so I guess I will find out then, but I am getting impatient.

Hi nellym, maybe they are still growing, crossing fingers and toes for you! Well, I felt ovary pain today and then heard from my FS and all is good for the transfer on Monday. Still nervous though! x
