Question Baby Shower - Book Ideas

A good friend of mine is having a baby shower, it's being organised by a seperate group of friends as follows:

B, aka B, is having a baby so please join us for a celebration to mark this special occasion.
A light lunch and nibbles will be provided, BYO drinks.
We also urge guests to bring their favourite childhood book they grew up reading to be presented during the shower. On the inside cover of the book, can you please write your fondest childhood memory while reading the book or a heartfelt message to the mother and child. The book will be donated to the wee one's library.
More details on location in the park will be provided closer to the day.
We look forward to catching up with you all

So i LOVE books and i'm not sure i can choose what to get, so hit me with some ideas.

I was a big fan of Enid Blyton growing up but i know these are not particularly for KIDS, i also loved little golden books.
Also we don't know if bub is a boy or a girl so i can't pick out say a great TRUCK book etc.

Also i was wondering if it would be 'wrong' of me to suggest one of our lovely BB ladies to do some of her gorgeous biscuits for the baby shower, should i just PM B's friend and make the suggestion, as somethign cute for everyone to take away????

why can't you pick a truck book????
DD has everything from care bears to disney to little miss/mr men to thomas! if it's a fave book, it's a fave book!!

get something that YOU love though, not what you think others will think is appropriate!

Oh and also i was thinking of finding a cute poem or something to write in the cover... do you think that would be ok.. any suggestions?

    i found this:

    Baby's Choice:
Did you ever think, dear Mother,
As the seeds of me you sowed,
As you breathed new life inside of me
    And slowly watched me grow,
In all your dreams about me
When you planned me out so well,
When you couldn't wait to have me there
    Inside your heart to dwell,

Did you ever think that maybe,
I was planning for you, too,
And choosing for my very own
    A mother just like you?
A mother who smelled sweet and who
    had hands so creamy white,
    A tender, loving creature
Who would soothe me in the night?

Did you ever think in all those days
    While you were coming due,
That as you planned a life for me
I sought a life with you?
And now as I lay in your arms,
    I wonder if you knew
While you were busy making me,
    I was choosing you!

We have 'Hello Baby' too! One of mates had a similar book theme for her Baby Shower and it was so cool reminiscing over all the different kids books.

I think you just listed every one of my kids' favourite books

I remember Peepo - not from when I was really tiny, but my younger brother had it and loved it!

My favourite book when I was a kid was called 'Ice Creams for Rosie' - I went looking for it for my kids and it is out of print now

Sorry ZF, probably not overly helpful to you. I think you should pick a book that you remembered and you loved and that you can find in print. There are lots that are not available now. I think giving books as baby shower presents is a GREAT idea! Books are expensive, relatively, and it is such a good way to get a nice little library started.

putting that poem in the front of a book might be a bit much hun - maybe make the card one without a pre printed message and put it in there instead

i am hoping to get DD Possum Magic for a present at some point - love books like that! don't think she's had an "event" where a large part of her gift from us hasn't been made up of books! her book shelf is looking enviable (at least her books are unpacked - ours are still in tubs!)

What a brilliant idea!! Wish I had thought of that.

I love ten little fingers, ten little toes. Gorgeous book.

Books like Possum Magic are so so popular. Maybe Koala Lou instead? If she gets multiple copies of Possum Magic, all inscribed, she's stuck with them all!!

Paddington? Animalia for when bub is a little bit older? Meg and Mog books are around again too.

please do - i hate buying books for other kids not because i think it's a bad idea (not at all!) but because i worry about doubling up - esp if i write a message in it so they cant swap it!
