    Balance Bikes...

what do i need to look for?
which ones are the better ones?
are the ones that convert to a pedal bike worth a look at?
how much is reasonable to pay?

we're looking at getting DD2 one for her 2nd birthday

    thanks!

I just got one second hand on ebay, but there are brand new ones on there for a reasonable price. From what I've spoken to others about, be careful of the ones that convert to a bike by adding pedals. The seat is lower on a balance bike, and to add pedals with enough height that they can rotate, the seat needs to be able to adjust up so that the distance between the bum and the feet are the right length, IYKWIM. Some are selling balance bikes with pedal packs, but unadjustable seats, I wouldn't get those.

I was about to start the same thread yesterday but didnt get time. I am also looking at getting one for ds (he will be 2 at xmas). I am trying to choose between the JD bug, the Weeride and the Eurotrike. The JD bug has rear breaks (with brake thingy on the handlebars but they possibly wouldnt have the strength to use until about age 3), tires that you can pump up or deflate for better grip on more surfaces, adjustable seat height - i think from 37.5cm-42.5cm, it also has a padded seat and the ability to add on pedals at a later stage if you choose to do so. It also has a price tage of around $120.
The weeride is around $80 and has a front brake (on the handlebars also) and adjustable seat which i think is alot smaller than the JD bug - from memory 30-35cm??. It has puncture proof tyres.
The Eurotrike is on special at kids central for $80 (usually $100) and is the only one i have seen in real life. Its groovy looking (i like the silver one lol). It has an adjustable seat but i'm not sure of the height as it wasnt on the box but it looks small like the weeride, puncture proof tyres and no brakes at all. The seat looks a little uncomfotable - its flat and hard - would be ok for in nappies but maybe not so for undied bottoms

I still havent decided but i will probably end up getting the weeride or jd bug, but there's such a differnce in the seat height, let us know which one you end up getting
