    Question Calming kids, herbal ideas?

Have no idea where to post this, but just wondering if anyone uses something to calm their baby or child. I have read about some things that can be used to help restless or over active child. My DS1 whom is almost 4 is on the go all of the time, typically it does not bother us but when out and about for certain things we just can't get him to be quiet or sit still. We are heading home for Christmas, it's a 2 day drive and a few weeks stay with other people and would love something that perhaps 'calms' him down just even a little bit.
    Do they even work?

Massage can help but it's a bit disconcerting when a 4 year old demands massages lol.
Guided imagery used to settle one of ours right down.
We give Mr 4 the celestial seasonings sleepy time tea. It's mainly camomile with some other stuff. Plain camomile is the tradition calming tea.
They used to do yoga at their childcare center. You can find kid's yoga on youtube.
A portable DVD player can lull them into a zombie like state on long journeys.

You could try Bach flower remedies... I know rescue remedy is fantastic - we use it for everything... Anxiety, teething, hyperactivity, restlessness - the list goes on...

I'm not sure if they're still available or not but when my son was around that age (10 yrs ago) I tried him on these natural chewable tablets called "Calm Kids" they were basically made from dried Apricots. They worked like magic and then didn't need all the medications the doctors were pushing (tried to say he was addhd??) they took about a week to take action but he was like a completely different child once they 'kicked in'.

We use chamomilla which is provided in liquid form by a Herbalist. It is a homeopathic remedy for restlessness.

I have given it to DS when he has been crazy upset and it has stopped him in his tracks and then other times it is not quite so profound. Given that it works most of the time I would recommend it.
