Hi, can anyone tell me what Rockhampton is like? We're thinking of relocating there from Brisbane. Thanks!
compared to brisbane very quiet

It's very hot and dry in summer, like Rach said. It feels like you're in the middle of nowhere. Well to me it did when I was kid anyway lol.
see to me now going to rocky is a fun day out lol the shops the noise lol i love visiting now
good schools?
I went to Gracemere Primary, and my sister went to Cathedral college. Can't tell you much about Gracemere (don't really remember). Mum says Cathedral College was a good school. However this was 20 years ago.
private or public, the grammer (private) are supposed to be good schools theres a girls one and a co-ed both prep thru yr 12 the cathedral college is good as well again another private school but is only highschool
st anthony's is supposed to have a good rep for primary as well
anything else...after living in Moura I wouldn't move back to rocky only cause I like my peace and quiet but if your coming from brisbane then rocky will be quiet for you the shops are great now and 7 day a week trading as well
I am Rach75's sister. Rocky bredhere as well.. Don't live there anymore but our mum does.
I went to glenmore High. It was good as schools go I spose. If you have Facebook check out the rocky school sites. I think most of them are on there now..
Primary school.. We went to St Josephs wandal and St anthony's
Rocky is probably very quiet compared to Brisbane but I find the traffic and noise annoying after a few days. I live in a smallish beach townabout a hour from Rocky
Ask away with anything else.
Yeap.. also lived in Rocky... & Gracemere... I thought they were both holes HAHAHA
Totally Totally different to Brisbane but I spose it depends on what your after. Personally I was glad to get the hell out of there ... visiting is alright, but thats only cause I know I am not staying there lol
I personally don't find it a hole..
You make it what you want. There is plenty to see and do in an around the place. It is central to most of QLDGuess thats why it is CQ's capital

Have you ever been there?
yeah I agree its not a hole its what you make it, only reason I wouldn't live back there is I live ina quiet country mining town ...2000 people so its country living for me LOL
Shel grew up in Yeppoon. And all she has to say is... When you go up to the lookout and lout out on to Rockhampton, the lights spell "HELL".
(they actually do, she took me there when she engaged. So romantic)
you know I have never been able to see it except what they printed in the paper
I love the lookout at Mt Archer. it is great to go up there when a lightening storm is coming. Fantastic...
Yeppoon is nice too.
I shouldn't be here as I promised myself I wouldn't let BB distract me anymore. So anyway......LOL
I lived in Rocky for two years. We moved for my work which was temporary and when it finished we moved back down to where we are now near Brisbane. There are some things I really like about Rocky and some things I really don't like.
Don't like: The weather. In summer it was so so hot. And we would just watch the storms pass straight over. It seemed to have very little air flow. It sounds like a small thing but it really affected my energy levels. I am not one for air-con but at my work I had special equipment and had to use it for that. And I was really glad of it!!!
The area I lived in: Depot Hill. Very rough. Lots of violence. Cheap rent.
Like: The parks. There are some great parks there. Our favourite was the one at the botanical gardens which is always shaded. But there are others as well. The big pool with the slides is also great for little kids (although needs a bit of maintenance).
The beach: Yeppoon is not far away, and has some great cafes. Emu park is also close.
My mums group: I met an awesome group of mums there and I really really miss them. They were so welcoming.
Soccer: Rocky is great for soccer. I used to play indoor and outdoor futsal. They also have quite a few outdoor teams but they only run with the soccer season while the others run all year. Amazing for fitness and so much fun.
If Rocky had better weather and I got a good job there I would consider living there again.
thanks everyone. we decided not to go. really appreciated your replies!
