    60 days notice

Well, we've been given 60 days notice It was kind of inevitable, we knew they were living overseas and would return, but thought it was going to be in July next year, not now! The neighbours had mentioned they had seen something on Facebook about them coming back soon though, so I'm not completely surprised.

I am wondering if we find a place now if we can leave before the 60 days is up? I think its probably unlikely that anything decent is going to pop up over christmas though!

Thanks landlords for this lovely bit of stress over christmas...

That sucks. I don't know your area, but you may be surprised by what's available this time of year. We've been looking in Melb and there seems to be a fair amount available to rent in our budget without many people looking to move.

Depending on your state, I think you're able to leave on 28 days notice once you find something. It may be earlier given they've given you notice - I'd check with your state's equivalent of the renters tribunal.

oh that's annoying - on the bright side, they have given you lots of notice so you can look around well.

It's bad timing, that's for sure good luck!

Such a shame, particulary over Christmas. My husband and I live abroad and we have decided that when the times comes for us to move back to Australia we will be quite flexible with our tenants - provided our parents are happy for us to live with them for a bit! We will give our tenants 90 days notice, and if they find a place in three weeks then we would be willing for them to leave the house (without penality). We've been renting for years and know how frustrating it is!

I think you should bring this up with the landlords and explain given the timing isn't great, can they be flexible with the terms?

Good luck, hope you find something x
