Mixing up a cats diet will actually cause their tummys to become upset, so keep it regular. We feed our kitty dry food, good expensive stuff, not whiskas or anything like that, stuff that is nutritionally balanced. No wet food at all here, I find it's a bit unnecessary for cats, they are fine on just wet. Occasionally as a treat we give her offcuts of chicken, or a small small amount of wet food with dry, if she's sick or whatever, but yea, just dry food for our little princess
Ours have dry food for b'fast & chicken necks for dinner - we lock them in the laundry at night once they get the necks which prevents the draging of them around the house growling and stop them (cats & necks) ending up in beds. They have an occasional tin of sardines in oil when we run out of necks.
I used to work at the Vets and we would never recomend just dry food as it destroys their kidneys. So we used to recomend one feed to dry and one feed of wet or meat.
Holy cow, I didn't know that!! Hmm will up her wet food/meat intake from now and then to every night. Once again thankyou BB for educating me Am off to do some further reading about this!
Mine also gets to eat what I eat, so tonight some very garlicy/herby lamb roast was on the menu. Cat is also partial to steak, stir-fry chicken, fish (salmon) and tuna (not cat food).
Omg, just read a few articles about dry food, now I know it really makes so much sense...will start easing Bluebelle into a wet food diet (most likely raw meat/chicken) tomorrow! I hope I can get my mum to consider it for her kitties too, I love them as much as my own, I missed them when I moved out.
Oh gosh, that must be why our (ex-)dog didn't grow to the normal size for her breed - she only got wet food every now and then, sometimes with months in between That and living indoors pretty much 24/7... I'm so sorry, Angel, I hope your new owner treats you better than we did
My vet said that the diet our animals get is fine. The dry food is the expensive stuff from the vets (specific to age/breed), I know their liquid intake. I'd rather give them the dry food than the wet food you can buy for the animals. They do get real food as well, fish is the same as we eat, meat as well. Was in at the vets for annual check up a couple of weeks ago and the vet was impressed at how healthy the cat was considering the age.
Never been a cat owner, but for our doggies and birdies we stick to as natural as possible... 'would they eat this in the wild?'
Teni, I would think genetics would determine the size of your doggie as opposed to it's diet. My girl is small for her breed and gets the all clear at her annual check up. We gave her the best diet for her first 12 months, followed the diet plan from the breeders and vets without fail. After the 12 months we stopped buying the premium plus dry food as it was costing a absolute fortune.
Mine has a bowl of dry food in the morning with normally last till the next morning and she gets half of one of those tiny tins of wet cat food in the morning and off cuts of what ever meat we eat at night, chicken, mince, steak, fish etc. i tried her on chicken necks but she wouldnt touch them...picky! she enjoys the odd lizard that wonders in to the house too and is pretty nifty at catching spiders/****roaches/moths etc
My 2 cats get dry food only - it's the scientific diet from the vet. They also get offcuts from my cooking - raw chicken / beef etc. They also get carrot & tomato (raw!) whihch they both love. If outside, they'll eat tomatoes off the bush.
