I need some novel exercise ideas

    I need help!!!

I have put on quite a bit of weight since I moved to my new area 6 or so months ago. I was so active before and now I am really struggling, and am starting to feel quite depressed. My work is very stressful and I really need to keep active to keep on top of things.
Before I moved I used to play soccer twice a week, ride my bike to work, jog twice a week and do an exercise DVD twice a week. Now that I have moved it has pretty much all stopped. I can't ride my bike to work as there are no margins on the side of the road and it is all 100km/hr with big trucks coming within 10cms of me. Soccer season has finished and there is no indoor soccer near me - the closest one is 35mins away and it was really crappy (10 people on a tiny tiny court). I can't do any exercise DVDs as I now live in a caravan. I tried to do it with my computer but I kicked up so much dust that my computer trackpad is playing up now. There are two gyms near me. The first is on a uni campus and it is closed for the whole summer (?!?!) and the other is curves which I am not a big fan of as it is the same every time, has no showers etc, has no aerobics classes and is still expensive. So that only leaves jogging from my previous exercise regime but I really can't do it more than twice a week as it is so boring. I could motivate myself to do it before because it helped with soccer but just on its on, it is booooooring.

Can anyone help with some suggestions?!? No wonder every where I look here people are overweight. I live in a fitness vacuum. The one indoor soccer place here only runs during the normal soccer season (which is crazy as all the soccer players are already playing and have no off season soccer options). Help!!!

Is there a park or somewhere nearby that you can do a circuit workout on even say a school oval or something like that. You could on your jog stop every so often and do say starjumps or pushups etc so your jog wont be as boring. Do you have a local pool swimming is a great workout. is there a place that has a flight of stairs you can run up and down those then alternate by only doing 2 steps at a time its a great workout and its a killer. Jump rope is another option. I hope this helps you

Is there somewhere near your work you could go to, like a class of some sort, a gym or pools. Maybe before or after work you could go some days.

Get yourself a hula hoop. Freaking awesome things.

Also, there are loads of challenges, 100 push ups, 100 sit ups, the couch to 5km running program. Google them babe!

DD1 has some hula hoops, great fun! I realised how unfit I was when I couldn't spin it around my hips anymore lol

Hehe, hula hoops rule. I used to work with kids with anorexia and they all swore by them for burning calories

Great ideas guys! Thanks! I thought I might start my own pre-soccer-season challenge to get into top shape. I can jog a couple of days and do some soccer drills on others. I wonder if I can hula and kick a ball at the same time........LOL. Definitely going to get one of those. I bet I could even do it in the caravan.

Do you have a bike rack? Can you drive somewhere that has some better cycling routes and ride from there? Are there any pools nearby where you can do some swimming - tends to be cheaper than the gyms? Are there any hills where you can do hill training or beaches for sand dune training etc? It's hard without knowing where you are. Are there any personal trainers around that you can use until the gym reopens at the uni where they can provide the equipment so you can do some outdoor activity - or can they come to your work and you could get a group training session run for there?
