Question Weight gain in 15 month old

    Hi
Does anyone know what sort of weight gain we should be looking at when bubs are 15 months old.

I am trying not to be worried as bub is fit and healthy and generally sleeping through (taking teeth or cold out of the equation). But his weight gain has been practically non existent since he was 12 months old. And if anything over the last few weeks he appears to have gone backwards! He has always been on the light side (10% line ) so he doesn't have any fat to burn so to speak!

At his 12 month check he weighed 9.2Kg and when I took him yesterday to be weighed yesterday he was only 9.4kg. He will step on the scales for me at home and had gone up to 9.8Kg and even 10Kg on 2 occasions (though was after he had eaten) but now is only 9.4kg on them too.

He is super active and basically spends the entire day walking, running and climbing so I know he is burning a lot of calories. Any ideas on more fatty foods I can give him. He eats quite a bit of cheese and I am going to try to give him more avocado but he doesn't appear that keen on it. I try to give him nutritous foods each meal and at snack time but maybe I need to increase the fat content so he can get a bit of meat on his bones!!!

Any ideas thoughts gratfully received. I don't want to go back to worrying about weight gains again - too stressful.

    Thanks in advance!

try not to worry it might just be whats normal for him. especially if he is active and running round all the time. my 16mth old is a fair bit heavier at 12kg but he has been that weight since just after he turned one he sort of hit a stand still too..
you can try things like rice, pasta and bread if ud like him to put on weight. cheese and avocado are good too.. does he like yoghurt or drink milk coz theyre good for filling him up too.
all in all though i dont think you have much to be worried about, some kids are just naturally on the lighter side and if hes happy and healthy im sure all is fine =)

What does he look like? Unles he's wasting away and weak I really wouldn't worry about the numbers on the scale.
DS was probably a similar weight at that age and is now about 12.5kg. His weight and height have tended to remain fairly steady for a while, then shoot up a bit from time to time.

He's about the same weight as my little guy who'll be 2 in Feb. Yep he's little....he's just a pocket rocket though. As one mama on the lower end of the weight chart to another, your little guy sounds like he's doing just fine.
Their weight seems to plateau about that age in my experience. DD was a fair bit heavier (and a whole lot taller than DS) at 15kg at 2 years old. She didn't put on any weight until nearly 4 though.
I also found that they had changed the weight charts from when DD was born so on her baby book charts DS is fairly average (the boys ones) but on his own in his book he's on the bottom....just another thing they want us to stress about

Thanks ladies. Really helps to have your responses.

I know I am silly to be worrying about it - just doesn't help when every single baby I know and see, including my MG and friends are well over the 50% mark weight wise. Having a very close friend whose 8 month old is the same size as my 15 month old can make me feel I am doing something wrong ! BUT I know he's healthy and has masses and masses of energy as he goes non stop all day and generally sleeps through at night so he's not hungry. Marcellus to answer your question what does he look like - he's slim and doesn't have any fat on him but isn't wasting away. His stats are a bit funny though HC is 75%, height is 60% and weight 10% so guess he will be tallish, slim and maybe really brainy - big head lots of room for lots of brains ??? LOL.

Noni*e he already has rice, some pasta, potatoes, bread and loves cheese so think he must just have really high metabolic rate - wish mine was as good! and just burns everything he eats. Will just keep offering and guess at some stage he will begin to put some weight on again like you ladies have said. Don't think it will be this week as molars are coming through :-( so we are not really eating!

    Thanks again x

He sounds fine (and very like my DS, except that he's a bit shorter)

I wouldn't worry Sounds like he is just really active and burning it off. Also sounds like you are giving him a well balanced out diet too. Good job

You also need to bear in mind genetics, if your families are tall and thinner build then it isn't fair to expect a child to be on the higher percentiles. Plus in order to have a percentile chart some children need to make up the bottom %iles just as they need to be in the top too

My DS1 was 9.68kg and 75.5cms long at 15m and DS2 was 9.4kg 78cms long and HC of 47cms. DS1 was 1545gm and 40.5cm at birth and DS2 was 3090gm and 50cm so that just goes to show that genetics eventually take over despite birthweights too

At 15 months, they were developmentally worlds apart, DS1 hadn't started taking steps yet and DS2 was running, climbing and into everything.

    Hope that helps x
