    Advice needed... Re: milk production

I'm currently TTC for no.2 and am a little concerned about my milk production as when ds1 was born I produced absolutely milk at all (a little colostrum that's it) so after two weeks of persistance I gave up on bf. I really don't want to be in this position with no.2 so if there is any advice anyone could give me about how to produce more milk I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

The best way to increase your milk production is by feeding your baby at the breast. Expressing can often give the impression of low supply when in fact babe is getting all he or she needs. If your supply seems low when baby is BFing then sometimes this is an indication of poor attachment, so contacting a lactation consultant when you are pregnant will mean you will have someone to contact if you have concerns once bub has arrived.

During your pregnancy you can join the ABA and meet other mothers who have breastfed succesfully (often overcoming pain/supply issues/attachment problems). Talking to them and seeing how they breastfeed will be the best preparation you can do.

    Good luck TTC!

Hi, it's good that you are thinking about this now. Perhaps you can tell us a bit more about the circumstances surrounding you baby's birth. For most women when the baby is feeding from the breast there is nothing much to see- milk goes straight from the breast into the baby. However our culture, I including birthing culture can affect the way we breastfeed. Traveller gave some top notch advice. Doing an ABA breastfeeding education class is really helpful- it helps to understand how the system works and what to expect
