Angry Does your nearly 3yo still eat crayons, textas ... feeling aarrrgh right now!

DS1 is 3 in March. He is STILL eating the tips of crayons, textas etc. He'd rather eat them than draw with them.

I could kick myself. Spent $10 or so on a kit of Crayola mess free colour wonder textas and colour-in book. Gave it to DS1 this morning - two of the five textas now have their tips bitten off. Aarrrrghh!!!!!!

They still work. But only just.

I love him to death, but right now I could ... well, I'm sure you can guess. He is totally oblivious to why I'm cranky. He just doesn't get why he shouldn't eat textas.

When will it end. Tell me a light bulb goes off when they turn 3 ...

Hi AndieE I’m sorry but I can’t offer you any comfort, just my sincere commiseration. I was about to write a post just like yours, my 2yo DD still puts everything in her mouth and chews it. It’s like living with a 6 month old Labrador puppy. Books, DVDs, crayons and pencils are her favourites. We have seen many beautiful books, that we lovingly nursed through DS’s babyhood and toddlerhood, gone in 30 seconds if DD gets her hands and mouth onto them. It is so frustrating!

We try to keep really precious things away from her and give her some sacrificial things to destroy, I have no idea if this is good or not? I just don’t let her use crayons anymore. I tell her constantly, “that’s not for eating, don’t eat that, don’t put that in your mouth”. I was very frustrated yesterday and yelled at her “get that out of your mouth” and she said in a tiny, gorgeous little voice “I’m sorry Mummy”, I felt so bad. I really think she just still a very mouth orientated person and I just need to be patient and wait, it will eventually stop.... but I have no idea when. DS never put anything in his mouth after about the 12 month mark.
