Recommendations for a paediatric allergist in Melbourne?

    Hey guys,

Just looking for a recommendation for an allergist in Melbourne who either specialises in paeds, or who takes on kids? We did some pr*ck testing through the RCH as we were in a study, and she did show up allergic to rye grass. I also think she has a kiwi or some other fruit allergies - which may explain some of the huge failure to thrive issues she did have (not sure why she is putting on weight now, maybe she outgrew one of them??)

I also want to discuss use of antihistamines in kids, as her eyes are constantly watering, and she did have deformed tears ducts.. - we have already had 2 surgery's when she was around 1yr old, and I have an appointment to go back in 2 weeks to see about this time giving up and making artificial tear ducts for her, but I just realised it might not be them blocked (especially as it is on and off), it could be hayfever.

So I figured might as well try and see and allergist before the surgery, and hopefully avoid her 4th surgery in 2 years.

I don't really care where they are in Melbourne, just that they are good and without hugely long waiting lists.

    Thanks.

Yael I have seen Dr David Cutting a few times, he works at the RCH as well as having rooms in Burwood East and Lilydale. Lovely manner, very thorough and his wait time is around 6-8 weeks but if you tell them you don't mind where you go and you would like a cancellation app you can get in a bit sooner. I can PM you his rooms number if you are interested. J has an egg allergy we saw him about as well as possible asthma in DD.

:yeahthat: I saw Dr Cutting at RCH with DD's nut allergies and I would recommend him. He is really wonderful with kids.

We saw Dr Joanne Smart, she works out of RCH and has private rooms in Malvern. She was fantastic! A couple of my friends have through Geoff Ford (he does not have a long waiting list) and have been very happy. He is in Essendon.

When we were in Melbourne my DS saw Dr David Hill. He is based at Heidelberg but also works out of Cabrini in Malvern. Now we are on the Sunshine Coast and allergy discussion came up when my DD2 had her post-birth paediatrician appointment. The paed up here wanted to know which allergist diagnosed DS and when I told him it was Dr Hill, he told me that apparently Hill is "the man" when it comes to allergies, so he must have quite a good reputation! He didn't have what I considered to be a warm and fuzzy bedside manner but he certainly knew his stuff, was incredibly thorough and he didn't intimidate DS at all (who was only 2 at the time). If you wanted to see him at Cabrini you'd have a longer wait than if you went to Heidelberg. Either way, you need a referral from the GP.

    Thanks guys for the recommendations.

Ian Humphreys was recommended by a friend who's DD had an anaphylactic reaction, she was happy with him, but I wasn't sure if she randomly got him at Monash, and happened to be happy with him, or if she had researched it.

I will call around each of those names and see who can see me the quickest.

In the meantime looking into giving her Zyrtec for 2 weeks as a trial to see if I can clear up the eyes, or if we will need the surgery.

Oh, Yael, we saw Dean Tey (the Allergy group at the Epworth). I thought he was wonderful. It was money well spent.

It depends..we were asked to fax our referral to her and then got a phone call to come in within three days. She bases her appts on urgency at her rooms in Malvern.
