I'm at the end of my tether with looking!

I'm so over looking for work. I've been looking for 6 months and still nothing. I've been flat out told I'm too old for jobs in stores and places like McD's, and all the jobs I'm actually qualified for are asking for a minimum experience level of 3 years! For entry level jobs! How the **** are people supposed to get experience if nobody is willing to give them a damn chance?!?!?! And the government jobs take MONTHS to get back to you - I dont have months! We've been living on damper and two minute noodles for the last week because we haven't had enough money for food! Centrelink arent giving me any help as DH earns like $100p.a more than he's allowed to and its just so frustrating

I feel like there's something wrong with me, or someone is blackballing me or something! It's killing my self esteem, every time I get another "Unfortunately you have been unsuccessful" email I burst into tears! I've never had this much trouble finding a job before - I've been working since I was 12 and still nobody wants me! I've worked in hospitality, retail, government, and finance, and am a fully qualified environmental scientist who graduated with honours! This shouldn't be happening! I did the right thing! I slugged out 4 years at uni and worked at least 2 jobs the whole time for what? A cosmic ***** slap it seems.

And now that I've started getting pregnancy symptoms I'm scared I wont be able to get a job anywhere if I get a BFP when I test either tomorrow or Friday. I just feel so defeated

Sorry for writing war and peace but I'm just so frustrated and I feel bad because DH gets upset when I'm upset and I don't want to pull him down with me

    /end rant.

Huge hugs Ginger, what a stressful situation. How long ago did you graduate? If its less than 1 year could you start applying for graduate roles? What options do they have through your uni? I know i was able to still access the jobs database for at least a year after i graduated, and i got my first opportunity through there. Can you have someone from your uni help you with your resume? It sounds like you have a number of jobs behind you, but employers will be looking for relevant experience and that you can demonstrate the skills they are looking for. Can someone help tailor it for your industry?

What kind of roles are you looking at? Perhaps you could start volunteering in your field? Did you do any work experience or placements while you were at uni? We do volunteering with our councils bush conservation program, and there seem to be some good opportunities for casual work in co-ordinating and training the volunteers. Could something like this be a start and help you get some cash in your pocket until you find a permanent role?

Good luck either way with your PG test, either way the right role for you is out there!
