My friend wrote this and I had to share. I love it so much.

Thoughts on Happiness by Colin Leonard Holmes

When someone says “you're ugly” or “you're pretty”, its only their opinion, not the truth. The truth is that you are, you exist. Any label attached to your being is an illusion created by the ego mind and with that comes judgment and fear and meaning. When someone asks “what does that mean” that person is not aware that it means only what s/he make it mean. Does that make everything meaningless? No. The trick is to accept others as they are simply because that’s who they are. We may not like someone or even hate someone, but if we don’t accept them and let go of our emotional attachment to that person we will never be free because we believe our thoughts are true and don’t realize that they’re just our thoughts and therefore not the actual truth. The illusion of our ego mind keeps us from being free. Accepting, forgiving and loving yourself and others is the key to true freedom, happiness and inner peace. This is only my opinion, my believes and my thoughts.

I've chatted about this stuff when I saw a psychologist a few years back. It's like living in the now and accepting this moment for what it is and not worrying about the past or the future. There's a great book called The Power of Now which talks about this kind of thing.

    Awesome.

I see Byron Katie as the how to of Eckhart Tolle (author of The Power of Now).
Living now is accepting that now is all there is. The past has gone the future isn't here so now is what is. It's so very helpful I agree MS.

I'm not sure why I havent replied to this thread earlier lol. Thank you for your lovely comments, I really appreciate it.

One night I simply started writing for myself, I sometimes like to keep a journal. What I wrote was basically a very small edited summary of my view of life.

I will start a blog soon where I will go into much more details about my 'thoughts on happiness" and other things.

Isn't that the underlying philosophy behind The Gruffalo? Perceptions and how they change due to the words of others is a big theme in that book and as such it's a key text in the Philosophy for Children scheme (can't you tell what I'm doing with DS atm?). But it is an important thought and a good thing to know - you can never hear it too many times or in too many different ways!

Many different cultures/religions share similar ideas - but amazing how many people simply don't understand things like this.
