    Question Hernia repair

I'm getting a hernia repair in a couple of weeks as a day patient. DH is under the impression that I'm gonna need a couple of weeks where someone has to lift the boys for me etc and wants me to get my Mum to take 2 weeks off so she can stay with us ('cause he can't take more than one, maybe two days off )

I was thinking I'd obvoiusly need help for a few days after the op, then the boys are at childcare for 2 days and then I'll be sore, but OK. DS2 does get picked up quite a lot, I will admit.

How much help will I need?

they do suggest not lifting over 10 kilos for 2-3 weeks as it may pop the repair.
also depends if you have a mesh or no mesh repair.

personally i would rest for atleast 10 days, and then only lift small stuff
although a small hole they are mucking around and splitting muscle which you will need to lift and may not heal properly resulting in a further hernia

For a few days, yeah, but I think you'll be right after that.
DH had his done through key hole surgery 3 weeks before DD2 was born & was fine after less than a week from memory.
    He didn't lift kids though...

No lifting anything heavier than a chair for at least two weeks. You don't want to have to go through it all again. It really depends where the hernia is and how they repair it if you'll need longer, be guided by your surgeon.
Its best to sit down and let the kids climb up on you and try not to lift them too much if you can avoid it...
    Good luck

Its tomorrow! Wish me luck. MIL is coming up next Tues till Fri so I may go mad with her good intentions. Boss thinks I'll be OK to work next week,DH thinks I won't be able to sit at a desk for long, I think DH is in for a shock over the next few days doing everything.
