It ruins the tattoo. It would also make it hard to redo, being scar tissue.
A good tattooist won't tattoo over a scar... Because the ink runs....
I don't have a tatt, but would dearly love to get a few. However, I'm thinking of getting them on the insides of my wrists. A dilemma (for want of a description) is that I occasionally burn the outside of my wrist or forearm cooking. I happened to burn my wrist right on the edge of where one of the tatt's would be yesterday. That one didn't blister, but sometimes they do (sorry, if tmi!). I still have a dark patch on my forearm from an oven burn almost two years ago.
So I'm wondering, how does a burn affect/damage a tattoo?
Thanks. And sorry if this is a sill question.

cant help to much, but i guess it is how bad the burn is, like if it gose threw a few layers of skin, then i would think it woiuld damage it.
for eg, my fil sliced his arm open with a chainsaw, the scar goes threw his tats (he is hevily tattooed) but other cuts he has that wernt very deep have healed with no sign of them.
sorry if this hasnt helped!
tattoos are such pretty things I dont think I put one were Id be inclined to wreck it
you could start getting into the habit of wearing oven mits maybe? I have one on my wrist but Ive never burnt there ,I burn my fingers cooking mostly![]()
I have a tattoo over my TB jag scar, and it has covered it up really well. But I wouldn't be too happy if an existing tattoo got burnt and scarred because I suspect it would ruin the art.
Thanks. Kind of what I was expecting I think. I have a tendency to touch the side of my arm/wrist on the sides of pots as I'm cooking, and oven trays or the racks. Since I usually do it stirring pots/turning things in the oven, etc, an oven mitt may not be very practical, but just a cuff of some burn-resistant material would be very useful.
I get you, I have burns on the sides of my hands and forearms from the oven biting me....
I have a tattoo on my left shoulder which had a reaction to the ink, it had a bad reaction and my skin had boils all over the tatt... it was horrible. I still have bad skin around the tatt but it is all healing up now. The tattoo itself will need some touching up now because there was some damage, but now that the skin has healed I can get a slightly different colour and be okay. I got my new tattoo on Monday and used a different shade of red for it and it has been fine.
Yeah, they are like bites, aren't they!
That's not good about the reaction to the ink. I haven't heard much about that happening. Glad its better though.
Cherished, I thought of those, but they have a lot of polyester in them, so would burn really easily. I think this is something I really need to do, especially as I'm going to be a casual cook at daycare!
I thought you must have been doing it for work or something. Maybe you could cover some of the sweat bands with fire resistant stuff? or just make some out of the fire resistant stuff?
Lol, funnily enough, when I was in the kitchen for a living, I never worried about burns. Now that I want to put a few tatts on, and quite possibly because I'm older and don't want scars all up my arms, I think about it. Even those leather cuffs should be good too. They won't burn!
