    Steri-STrips vs Stitches

Just wondering if steri-strips compare to that of stitches?

I have just had an altercation with my kitchen knife after cutting up my oh-so-delicious-Japanese Apple that we get here. Only that I didn't dry it properly & my knife slipped across the skin & straight through the corner of my thumb.

Made a very clean 'C' shape, but it gushed blood & it stung like hell.

I tried washing it clean, but it just wouldn't stop bleeding & so I have ster-stripped it & then put a bandaid over the top as I really, really, really don't want to have my first foreign hospital or Dr visit right now. The thought of going there just sends me over the edge. I don't speak enough Chinese, what if it costs me an absolute BOMB to get it seen to, etc....

I have just noticed that my bandaid is starting to weep a little though - so now I'm getting concerned.

The real question is, do steri-strips do the same job as stitches? Would it still be oozing a little bit even if I did have stitches?

Thanks for your replies in advance!

Mmm steri strips are only real good for skin tears or something. How deep is it? It sounds like it's in a bugger of a spot too. Good on ya. :P what would Rafa say about this!

Try not to use the thumb for a little because as soon as you put tension on it the site will peel open again iykwim

You probably made this happen, so I had one less finger to hold Raffa with!!!!! bahahah

I don't think it's that deep as such, but would be a couple of cm's from end to end. A nice big flap actually. (Keep it clean girl!)

I did something similar not that long ago, my mum (who is a nurse) just said to use steri strips...it's healed fine.

The strips should be OK. if need be change it the bandage it firmly and leave for a day or two. Try and keep it dry

DH is always cutting himself so have become pretty good at this type of DIY

Good excuse for not doing the house work today

Raffa won't be available for you tonight Ahurani. If I need to keep my thumb dry, he'll be in my kitchen doing the dishes for me & sponge-bathing me instead of steaming up the shower with me.

Thanks girls! I feel better now. It stings like ar*se though! I"m such a baby.

Raffa can kiss it better - I'm sure.
