    Mirena & Bleeding?

I know a lot of people have said that once the Mirena has 'settled' they don't get a visit from AF but i was wondering.

How long was it before that happened and do you get ANYTHING at all now?

For the first couple of months i had irregular bleeding, i would get AF and it would last longer than a week, other times it would be a week then brown discharge.

This month so far NOTHING but i am getting little bits of clear mucus at the moment but AF is overdue (roughly), i'm trying not to freak myself out

I had a Mirena for about 3 years. When it was first inserted I bled for about nine weeks. My DS was 6 weeks old when the IUD was inserted and I bled for 4 weeks after his birth. Don't know if that affected how long I bled for once the Mirena was in. I had a couple of irregular, light periods in the few months following and then nothing at all. So, no AF from about 5 or 6 months post insertion. Ultimately, the Mirena wasn't right for me but I loved not having AF!

Is the mirena one the iud that is hormonal based?
O had the non hormonal iud due to the fact i didnt like the thought of having break through bleeding and having a gadget mess with my hormones all together.. i dont think its very healthy to not have a period as it is a release of dead blood.. yuk lol
I had the non hormonal one and it was a blessing in disguise..
I did get told that hormonal iud's are very tricky when it comes to periods etc due to the fact that the hormonal balance in them releases excessively depending on the person...
Some peoples bodies just dont tolerate the IUD at all.. Maybe contact he dr who put it in and discuss what side effects are normal and what is happening with you..

i seccond getting it checked out, i was offered it after having dd, but due to my history with hormonal contraceptives was advised its probably not the best option for me. a friend had it in and *tmi* complained to me about a discharge that was off smelling, went to the doc and was sent to the contraceptive docs at the hospital. not sure what happened after that, i didnt ask! but it would be safest to find out, even if you find out who makes it and send them a email or call? usualy the companies are great for things like that, no one could tell me the effects of having the cervical vax while pg, so i hunted down the company and the answerd all my questions as best they could!

I had a mirena for 2 years and loved it but removed it as i knew i no longer want anymore kids so got something more permanent. Oh, plus the hot flushes i got about 1.5years into the Mirena was another factor.
My AF stopped completely about 6 months into the Mirena. No discharge at all. Just period free, which was absolutely awesome.
I would do a pregnancy test every 3-4 months to be sure to be sure, but all negative. I think what you have is normal. But if it bothers you, go get it checked out.
    But enjoy being period free!

I have just had this same thing!! And boy was i freaking out lol!! I have had mine for 9 months now and bled for almost 8 months straight then out of the blue it stopped and random pg like symptoms popped up, I did a test and it was neg, was going to do another but started bleeding again yesterday, so 8 months of bleeding, 3 weeks of nothing and then started again, LOVED the period free bit!! Im sort of thinking, it was hormones stuffing around (pg symptoms etc) but may also be my body finally getting used to it. Def try doing a test or two, just to put your mind at ease, and if your still worried, just visit your gp

I've had mine in for almost a year now and get a regular light period I'm quite happy about that. But its likely to be removed latter in the year for other resons.
