Sharing a hotel room with a toddler

DD and I are joining DH at a conference in Singapore in April. Normally we book an apartment when we travel with DD so we have more facilities (kitchenette, bedroom, etc) and we can watch TV, read on the couch, etc, while DD has her sleeps. As this next trip is a business trip, our hotel is paid for by DH's work so we don't have any say in the matter.

We have been booked in a standard room which looks lovely but it's a normal sized hotel room and I'm just wondering how we will cope with DD. We are taking her Phil & Teds portacot which is a lot smaller than the portacots supplied by hotels so that will give us a bit more room but I'm not sure how to tackle DDs day sleep/s. Do I put her in the bathroom or will I just have to nap too? Ive emailed the hotel requesting a more spacious room but given the conference is at the hotel, they'll be pretty heavily booked.

I'm still excited regardless! DDs day sleeps might just have to go to poo for a week though!

Either take a nap too or a good book to read in bed, or see if she will sleep in the stroller. With DD1 when we went to Thailand I napped or sat on the balcony and read. She slept in the stroller a few times when we were out and about in shopping centres.

    How exciting!

We've done this a few times and it does all fall into place somehow or another I find that once DD is asleep there can generally be a herd of cattle running through the room and she doesn't wake, so you may find you are able to move around the room without a problem while she's asleep. How does she fall asleep? Does she sleep in a darkened room? Will she take sleeps in her pram?

We have done the same with DD1, when she was your DD's age... just let her sleep in the portacot during the day and I relaxed and read a book and drank my coffee in peace... it worked fine. Although I was using a kindacot so DD1 couldnt see me, so she went down easier I think.

    HTH, and enjoy the holiday!

I either napped or read a book and had a coffee in peace. It was nice to have the down time without housework niggling at me!

yep, it will work, either nap in the stroller while you go for a walk or back at the hotel room and you can indulge in a good book or mags...you'll have a ball.

we went on holidays and had 1 standard room with 2 kids. When they slept we came home around 1pm and it was rest time for all of us, DH would read and I and my DD's would sleep.

Yay! That is just what I needed to hear. Thanks heaps girls! I have a few books I've been meaning to read so that will be nice. DD isn't really one to sleep in the pram but hopefully a morning swim each day will help to knock her out

DH suggested we can move her cot into the entrance of the room if we need too, you know how it's often darker in the entrance and a bit separate to the room. I'm sure she'll be fine though.

Yay! So excited. I love Singapore and can't wait to take DDto the zoo!

We have atayed in hotels a few times withh DD. she needs quiet and a BF to fall asleep and is quiet a light sleeper. So DH and I normally end up sitting in the room with the TV on really quietly or out on the balcony if we have one, which is normally nice aslong as its not to hot or wet. DH will normally go out for an hour in the evening, to the pub or shops or something..which he doesnt mind ....while i put DD to sleep otherwise she thinks its a big game and wont sleep.
but it normally works out ok.....

We got DDs when she was 3 months old and it's so cute!!! She was doing the cutest gummy grin! Cracks me up that she's got that passport for several years because she won't be that bald ever again
