So I live in the tropics and being wet season the mozzies are terrible and the uv rating is around 16 ( extreme) everyday, but I dOnt want to keep DD locked away inside all the time! She's only 6 weeks old, how old can I start putting sunscreen and insect repellant on her as she loves the pool but I don't want her getting burnt or mozzie bitten as Ross river and denge fever are really bad around here...
It's way to hot to keep a wrap on her too so even in the house she's getting bitten, we spent most of today cooped up in the bedroom and I don't want to do that too often, help!
Im not sure about what age you can start using insect repellents or sunscreens. But you should look for natural alternatives.
I dont have any children of my own- so this theory is not tested, but I have worked in child care for 9 years, so I have heard alot of theories from parents.
For mozzies: Dabbing lavander oil on children's skin can deter mozzies. The lavander oil is much more natural then other insect sprays- plus it is not being sprayed into the air therefore not being breathed in.
As for sunscreens: I dont like them myself. The smell, the oilyness, Yuck! A friend of mine uses the Cancer Council sunscreen on her babies. And she is the same as me.
