polar fleece for toy stuffing?

I've just started making toys and cushions, and I'm looking for an idea for an eco-friendly but hygenic stuffing that will dry quickly when washed. I want the toys to be machine washable. I'd prefer to use recycled materials if possible, and I thought of maybe using shredded recycled polar fleece. I know polar fleece doesn't 'hold' moisture and dries fairly quickly, but would it provide a breeding ground for bacteria? Being a synthetic product I don't think it would, but I'm not sure. Any ideas?
