There is a property in Mirboo Noth call Campbell Homestead they are a farm stay, can't remember what sort of activites you're able to do there but I can tell you they can book WAY in advance.
There is a childrens farm in Collingwood I think, not sure about accessibility transport wise but its an inner city suburb.
There is the Aquarium, Luna Park, Science works in Spotswood (I think you can take a ferry/boat trip there from inner Melbourne) the Zoo ....... That is all I can think of
Lorne has a great set up for kids - a cool playground on the beach and heaps of shops/cafes, berry picking for the kids near by (timing dependent of course) but it is ~ 2.5 hrs out of Melb. Otherwise maybe Rye/Rosebud down the Peninsula?
Melb Museum is a fav here - cheap and very interactive for the kids, my girls LOVE the dinosaurs, bugs and Phar Lap, lol! There are also great kids gardens in the Botanic Gardens in the city and Cranbourne - great fun again but little $$.
We stayed at a farmstay just out of Ballarat and it was awesome. Three cabins on a working hobby farm, about 10 kms from town. Kids could run around, ride bikes, feed sheep/other animals, and we all had a ball. I'd definitely go back.
Ohh just seen some pics from a friend who has been trying out a heap of BIG 4 parks - seems heaps to do for the kids!!! They have been to the Grampians, Angelsea and Lakes entrance and loved it. Could be a fun option - anything here to keep the small peoplehappy!!!
