I had this also, they sent me for a ultrasound to check for clotting as it was really bad, to the point I couldn't bend/flex at the ankle or scrunch/point my toes. But there was nothing to be seen & its just "normal" preg swelling. Its really humid here though so I think it was just my body going WOAH! its humid LOL. It settled down heaps but its still a problem for me & by days end my feet are really sore & the tops feel bruised to touch. Plus just yesterday I started getting a jutting pain up the back of that ankle that swells the worst. Typical though, I had my midwife appointment last friday when all was "well" now I don't see her again for 3 weeks. But if the pain gets worse when I am standing I will call up.
Oh chica I've had one leg (my left) swelling far more than the other the entire way through pregnancy!
I was sent for a scan to check for DVT, but only because the left leg was painful (TBH I think it was mostly the way the GP squeezed my calf that made me flinch, but better to be safe than sorry!) and all came back clear.
I think if you're concerned about it, or your leg hurts in any way you should get it checked out.
Otherwise don't stress :-) I'm so used to it now I think I'd be worried if they swelled evenly! lol
I had this too, with my last 3 pregnancies actually.
I was told as long as there is no pain, hot spots or red areas on the leg, everything should be fine. My left foot actually swells even more dramatically after having the baby so I just try to keep the foot elevated as much as possible and get Dh to massage it too.
I think it is definitely best to get to checked out, but don't stress too much as it is fairly common. I hope your swelling goes down soon
I also used a cream called Hirudoid cream which helped heaps too. I just applied the recommended amount and covered it with a bandage - only 'cause it was too swollen for a sock! - and within an hour or so a majority of the swelling had gone down.
LMP - keep an eye out for increased swelling on that side that extends, heat and pain as that could mean that you have a DVT... if you are worried, a trip to the GP would be a good idea.
But swelling on one side can be the position of bubs blocking the blood supply and return...
Try and keep that leg elevated and lie on the opposite side to move bubba so that you can get better blood return.
completely off topic, but Hiridoid cream, incidentally, is also referred to as 'poor models facelift', if you put it on bags under eyes etc it will tighten the skin for a few hours - great for the sleep deprived pregnant woman or Mumma when she is trying to look not so sleep deprived
