Did a personal trainer help you?

    Hello lovelys

So im trying to loose my baby weight, its coming off slowly but Im not very good at getting motivated!! I have 10-12kg more to get back to what I was, so not heaps. Im 72kg and was around 60kg before I was pregnant. Im about 173cm tall. I got up to 80kg when I stopped breastfeeding and managed to loose all that walking in about 3 months. But I had a really good hilly 6kg walk then and it wasnt hot!! I got into the habit of going everyday.

I eat fairly healthy meals of healthy proportions. drink only water. "try" not to eat at night watching tv but thats my down fall

I walk afew times a week, I can walk everyday, but its just so hot atm! I do have a gym membership, but there creche is crap and only open from 9-12 and that hardly works with DD. And I hate going there with all these skinny girls who are fit as silly I know but makes me feel like crap! I have a cross trainer...but I havent used it! Im so slack!

So did a personal trainer help you to get into the fitness and excersise habit? I heard it takes 29 days to create a habit, but I just cant seem to motivate myself!

    TIA

We have very similar stats!!!! You're a kilo lighter than me though!

I think it depends on the trainer. Personally, I've had a few, and one was terrible (I reckon I knew more than she did!), One was *too* brutal, I don't react well to negative feedback, and one was absolutely brilliant! Unfortunately she doesn't train anymore The ways she helped were:
*Having an appointment to keep- I don't like letting people down
*Paying the money- I'm sure not going to waste an hour I've paid for!
*Guidance on when to amp it up- I may not have had the confidence otherwise
*Keeping a 'scorechart' of measurements etc- something to refer to so I could see my progress.

At the moment, I'm too far out of town, and it's too expensive for me to justify getting another trainer, so it's walking and diet for me!!! But I'd get another one in a second if those variables were gone!!

    Good luck!

i agree that it depends on the trainer - it's important to find one that suits you & will keep you motivated.

the things i like about doing PT are

    - i work so much harder than i ever would on my own or even in a class. they know how hard they can push you & where i may have thought i'd reached my limit, they'll show me that i can actually do more
    - i stick to the appointments & don't make excuses like i may do if doing it on my own
    - it feels like a treat - for 45 minutes it's all about me.
    - they change things around after a while so that you're not just doing the same programme again & again
    - they help identify areas where you've improved & really make you feel like you're achieving something

for me the biggest thing is the first point - i'd be inclined to think i was working hard enough but they've shown me i can do so much more than i realised.

My husband is a PT, but I have had one at a gym before he became one, too. I think a few good points to look for are:

*Try to find one that knows what they're talking about. Sounds obvious, but so many don't. If you have specific needs (you have medical conditions etc), find someone that has at least some basic knowledge about it - you don't want someone pushing you in ways you shouldn't be pushed.
*Try to find someone that has a good nutritional knowledge as well. Telling you to eat less, eat more frequently and eat more fruit and veggies is encouraging, but isn't exactly rocket science. PTs aren't allowed to give dietary programs unless they are also trained to do that, but they should be able to give you good advice - exercise is a massive part of losing weight, but diet is huge as well.
*Group fitness classes with a PT can be a great idea - my husband, for instance, runs smaller groups if needed for mums, so that 2 or 3 can get together, they're with friends and it doesn't feel as daunting, and it's alot cheaper. He runs circuits with them and gives them a really good work out, and time flies when you're with others and having fun (even if the having fun is watching your friends suffer the way you are )

I think you definitely get more from a workout session if you have the right PT that knows what they're doing. They'll work you out far more efficiently than if you went to the gym and did it yourself, and once you've had a number of sessions with them and you know what you're doing, it will make it far easier and quicker to get to your goals.

This all being said, after this baby's born I gotta lot of work to do

If I didn't have my weekly PT appointment I don't think I'd get to the gym at all!
Not only do I not want to waste the money, but have become wonderful friends with my PT and look forward to seeing her every week.
In regards to feeling intimidated by skinny people, I go to a fernwood womens health club and it's a totally different experience! This is my 2nd year there and the only gym membership in my life I've actually used and renewed!

I had the best experience with my PT. They push you to your limits and help keep you motivated I learnt alot from them .
Does your Gym offer PT training some do. I found that I had to go as my time was booked in so not often didnt miss sessions.
I was 128kilos when I started with my trainer I got down to 109 and I know what you mean about being at a gym with all these "skinny" people its does feel daunting but man I would love to be your weight now. I stopped going because I just couldnt afford it anymore otherwise I would be still going.
Maybe you could find a PT that offers a free lesson to see if you like it.

My gym does a group circuit class with a personal trainer and I have found them the best thing I have ever done! We get a core group of people, I have made some great friends and I am still going, 17weeks pregnant - the PT just changes the exercises to suit me. I have learned so much about what I am capable of, how to do a session, exercise ideas and motivation. If PT one-on-one is not an option, then I definitely recommend a group training session.
