Should I go for the job?

I am currently on maternity leave and not due back until August (I've been at this company for 3yrs in April). The boss way back suggested I could come back part time, but now he is not so sure that will work.

I am currently studying at TAFE and during an assessment had to look for job ads. While doing this, I have found a job that would suit me down to the ground. Its a part time (job share) job within the industry I am currently in. The company seems very professional and organised, something which my current work behind the scenes is not. This other place has been established for over 30yrs, whereas where I am now, its only 5yrs old.

I am sick of my currently employment changing all the time. My job role has changed about 7 times and I am not qualified for any of it. I just want one job role that I can focus on and then if I move on and up onto something else, then great. When I have brought this to my bosses attention (as have the other people in the office), the boss thinks we are just whinging and tells us to get on with the work.

I've done a pros and cons list for each company:

Pros for staying: I know the company, I know the people, I know how we do things, it's closer to home, get the same salary when I return (or IF i get to go back part time, whatever the hourly rate works out to be from my salary), get to go back to work in August and have that extra 5mth with my girl.

Cons for staying: Might not be able to go back to part time, remain unhappy and come home upset (like I used to), stay incredibly frustrated

Pros for changing: Something new, part time work, I already know the industry, general processes & terminology so would pick it up pretty well, get to work in a professional environment with proper processes & procedures

Cons for changing: Miss out on that extra 5mths maternity leave I have left, leave a workplace that I am just comfortable with, travel to work, possibly a lower rate if pay (I'm not sure about that 100%), no maternity entitlements for next baby (not that I am now on paid maternity leave, just having the job open for me to go back too).

I don't want to get myself into a rut and just stay put cos I'm comfortable and too scared to try something else. But at the same time, besides all the changes, where I am now has been the best place I have ever worked.

And is it fair to take the job when I know I am having another baby next year? Do I just stick with what I've got for another year, have a year off then look for something else if I want to?

    What would you do?

I would probably go for the other job. Whilst you have listed alot of the cons of the new job I don't think they outweigh the cons from your current job. GL

Sounds like you are unhappy with your current job and why stay there and come home all the time upset and unhappy. I would take the new job and if you happen to fall pg in the next twelve months then so be it.
