    IVF Newbie ?

    Hi,
Next week I will be starting my first IVF cycle & was just wondering if anyone can share anything on maybe things they would have liked to know before they started IVF or any surprises they had.etc.

I have done a year of IUI with purogen injections, having a trigger shot & then pregnyl shots in the 2ww so I guess I have an idea of the injections & the blood tests.

I also just had some endo removed so I am really hoping that this will work, we did fall pg once last year but had a miscarriage in August & then nothing after that.

It was a very long year doing IUI with not the best chance of success which is why we are going to IVF for better odds, fingers crossed.

Does it usually take a month of trial & error with getting the dosages right for each patient?

    Thanks for your time, Jo

    Hi DJTTC,

Nice to meet you sorry you have to go down this road!

I guess the main thing that shocked me was the fact that I spent 2 months on the pill, injections etc for my 1st cycle, only to have it cancelled because of a poor response, I didn't really expect that and I was shattered at the time. Hopefully for you because you have already been doing the puregon they will have worked out what is a good dose for you, so that won't be a problem.

I found the injections easy, and you should too as you are already doing them!

The other thing I would say is that I was quite open about my first cycle with my family, but found my mum was telling everyone she knew a blow by blow account of my progress unbeknownst to me so I had to tell her to be a bit more discreet next time!

Diffierent clinic are obviously different but I found I had to 'be in charge' of my care and make sure the clinic was on the ball, BB is good because you can see how other clinics do things and get a bit more knowledge to confront your FS with lol!

Anyway, good luck, I am starting a stim cycle next week too so come and join us in the LTTC and Assisted Conception thread, we can go through it together!

    Hi DJTTC

Im sorry that you have to join the IVF journey, its just not fair this TTC caper sometimes
As Saffy has said all clinics differ in their approach of things. The drug doses can be trial and error and what may work for one cycle doesnt necessarily work for another cycle iykwim. I started very low on Puregon and it did nothing but bump it up about 25u and I overstimulated to the max
It can be hard for some to understand that you dont want to be harrassed to provide them with details every day, but that is your call. I know I hated everyones expectations that we would tell ALL and when we didnt notify them they became disappointed.
Anyway, I sincerley hope that the IVF track is quick and easy for you and you bet your BFP soon

    Hi Jo
Since you've used some of the drugs before, hopefully your docs will have a better idea of how you respond - often the first cycle is a practice run where they sort out things like that.
    Good luck!

Smile IVF - Journey about to begin

    Hi all,
We have been trying to have our second child for nearly 4 years now. Seems as though our first son is a miracle, as I have translocation of genes 14 and 15. Now we have to do IVF and PGD.

    Wish us luck

    Hi everyone,

I appreciate your replys, just spent a couple of hours with my clinic yesterday to pick up everything & have a chat.

I am lucky my clinic is very good & even offers a counselling service as part of the cycle cost & surpisingly I don't feel bombarded with info!

Am feeling positive again about ttc where I had kind of lost that a bit last year so fingers crossed & good luck to everyone going through this, this would have to be one of the most stressful things a couple can go through!!!

DJTTC- great to hear you a feeling a bit less overwhelmed! Ask all the questions you want and make sure if you arent getting the answers in a way that makes sense that you question it again. Its your body, your IVF journey and you need to feel in control

renorta- Wishing yu the very best with getting your little miracle soon too
Perhaps the LTTTC section could be of use to either of you?:
