    stuttering child

    hi,
hoping someone can offer some advice for a 3 year old who's stutter has got noticibly worse over the last month. my DS2 has always stuttered, but given he was under 3 i just put it down to the fact his head was going quicker than he could get hs words out. my DH has a stutter also, so i think we may take DS2 to a speech patholigist, can anyone recommend one in Adelaide?

    thank you, Katherine x

If it hasn't lasted longer than 6 months they may tell you to wait until after 6 months because it is normal for a stutter to come and go again.

We saw a speech pathologist in Sydney who used the Lidcombe method. If you google it you will find a guide. It was really effective, we did most of the work and visited once a week, then fortnight and then monthly.

If you have a good maternal & child health nurse or GP, they might be able to give you some ideas of where to go, and maybe even give you a referral for a public service. You still might want to go private though, depending on how long your local public waiting list is. xo

Today Tonight on Channel Seven said that it was 'robot therapy' basically you talk in monotone like a robot. It sounds strange but apparently it works. I did notice too that they said the treatment was free of charge. I think it is in Sydney. They have more info on their website. I think the story was uploaded too. Has your DS always stuttered? I have a good friend who is a paediatric speech pathologist and when my DS started to stutter at around age 3 she told me that it is very normal for a child to stutter when they have an explosion in their language and vocabulary skills, which often happens around that age. My DS's stutter lasted about 6 months and self resolved.

I' sorry, I'm not in Adelaide to recommend anyone!
