Unusually heavy AF - need some advice please

I got AF on Thursday morning and since then I have been bleeding unusully heavily. I am soaking through a tampon & pad within 2 hours and when I stand up my blood is running out (so sorry for the TMI) . I am also experiencing terrible cramps and the bleeding is bright/dark red.
I had my mirena taken out 2nd Feb and I spotted for 2 weeks. I think had a break of 16 days and then I bleed heavily for 2 days. Then it was 10 days until I started bleeding on Thursday.
Is it ok to keep waiting it out and see how it goes or is it something I need to get checked out sooner rather than later?
I am starting to feel exhausted but I don't want to sit in A&E for hours today because I am working night shift and I need some sleep before I go back to work tonight.

    TIA,
    Dan.

Could it be one giant period from not having one for so long? (minera stops AF completely yeah?)

Liviam- I would get it checked out hun. Could you maybe go to a GP and just get a referal for a scan? Or even just ask whats normal after getting the mirena taken out Sorry im not much help
Hope it settles down for you soon xx

I used to get this before I got 'sorted'. You should go and get a blood test to check youre not anaemic (sp?) from the excessive bleeding and you can also be given Naproxen which will stop the bleeding. I have to take it every cycle after 3 days of AF to stop the bleeding otherwise AF goes on and on and on.....for up to 4 weeks sometimes!! Once I take the Naproxen it stops within a day and settles down for a normalish (albeit long) cycle

Get yourself to your gp hun asap. I had the same thing happen when I had implanon out. I bleed so bad, huge clots the size of tennis balls and was soaking through everything in like an hour. One morning I stood up and it GUSHED like you describe, down my legs and all over the floor. I was so weak and tired and felt light headed. Doc put me on 'Cyklokapron' or tranexamic acid tablets to slow the flow. They are used post op to stop bleeding. And they work after about 24 hours.

Big hugs hun I know how scary it is to be bleeding that much.xo

p.s forgot to mention I had implanon out last april and only now have my periods gone back to normal. I had to keep getting new scripts for the tranexamic acid tablets for ages after. I also went for an ultrasound which showed my uterus and lining etc was all completly normal, which means it was all the implanon removal that stuffed me up!
