Excuse my ignorance - why are bean sprouts forbidden? I've been so slack this time!

I ate noodle box through my last 2 pregnancies. I was completely addicted to Laksa. I always asked for no bean sprouts but occasionally they would forget and I got them.

FabFiona - Apparently bean sprouts hold bacteria and listeria. The listeria can be killed off with heat but the bacteria they hold isn't so they should be avoided when pregnant.

ETA - Apparently now NSW Food Authority says you can have them if they're cooked at high temperatures. Good news!

I've been eating them heaps. I'm a bit Vietnamese food fan. I had no idea.

Then again, I've been eating ham, sushi, smoked salmon amongst many other 'forbidden' foods! I'll look into this bean sprout thing before I decide to ignore it.
