Test results - go now and wait, or go tomorrow?

    Ladies, trying to decide here...

DS has been sick and I took him to a GP on Sun night. I had to take in a stool sample for testing. Dropped it Monday, heard nothing. Rang about 6pm today (clinic is open til 11pm) and asked if the results were back, the recepionist checked and said "Oh, hmm. Can you hold please?"

I held, she returned and said "You need to come in and see a Dr, can we make an appointment for tomorrow or do you want to come down and wait?"

You can make appts or just rock up and wait. No appts left tonight so I made a time for tomorrow but now DH and I are wondering if I should go down and just wait... I'm feeling a bit nervous..

If its nothing, would they tell me over the phone?

What would you do? I just rang and the current wait is 2hrs... not doing anything tonight, just sitting round...

Don't you hate that? Is there any way you could ring and speak to the doctor instead of having to go down there? I'd be tossing up whether to go or not too, I think worry would get the better of me, and then would go to find that there was nothing to worry about.

It's a pity you can't go on a waiting list for them to call you when there is like 30 minutes to go. They legally can't give any results over the phone because they can't gaurantee it is you that is calling iykwim. I think for your peace of mind, you should go and wait. Are you going to sleep tonight if you don't?

I would go tomorrow. Give the little guy a good sleep and take him in well rested. If it was urgent they would have said so. That's my 2c

Thanks gals. Lozzy, I don't have to take him, I can just go myself.

Pac - I think it'll be in the back of my mind, but I don't know that it'll stress me too much... Though now it'll probably keep me up... Grr.

LC - so it could still be nothing?

They just won't say anything over the phone.

Wait is now an hour, Dh just rang. He says wait til tomorrow, he says what can I do tonight anyway?

DS seems fine, maybe that's why I'm not stressing about it. He has stopped vomiting... Thank goodness.

I've been in the situation before, I got all stressed, but it was only because they can't tell you results over the phone.

Let us know how you went!
