    Birthday emergency - please help!!

We have developed a tradition of always going away for DS2's birthday. DH and I both want to keep it going but because DH won't commit to anything we're a week out from the big day with no bookings and nearly all the cheap fares are booked out.

What the **** can I do?

so are we talking flying or driving?

I don't know where to drive to other than Sydney or Melbourne , but if you are willing to fly?

I think the national park , Kosciosko , would be cool to check out

I looked up Jindabyne, holiday cabins, there are some good specials at ....

Pender Lea Chalets, and lots of family activities to do, and you could make it a road trip in the car

I am very much a Westy but once drove from Canberra to Batemans Bay and went past Pooh corner which would be awesome for kids and it was a really lovely place...any good?

south coast beach holiday, what about dubbo zoo? the zoofari is a great experience and the kids love it.

I'll be back later when I can think of more.

Thank-you for the awesome suggestions. I was beginning to freak out but thanks to the collective wisdom of BB I'm pretty sure we can pull together a wonderful birthday trip without blowing the budget.

Mogo zoo's supposed to be good, as is mollymook, eden etc on the south coast.
    Kangaroo valley is stunning

Not sure of distance/price but a houseboat on the murray might be nice. Or a trip to echuca with a trip on a paddlesteamer.

Or a farmstay in the middle of whoop whoop

When do you want to travel? There may be things on lastminute etc.

We have a night at the Zoo locked and loaded. Zoos aren't really my cup of tea but the boys have been begging to go for ages and when I gave them the choice of steam train or zoo they chose the zoo. We're staying the zoofari lodge so they get a night tour and an early morning tour as well as normal entry and the meals are provided so all I have to do is stop them from being eaten by a lion.
For $5 extra you can feed a giraffe - I'm so doing that. I love giraffes.

I've book marked this thread for future birthdays.

Onyx, I used to work at the zoo, and have done the zoofari thing. It is absolutely fantastic! Hence why I suggested it.
From exxperience get there early and make sure you get checked in fairly well on time. The tours are fun and deifantely kid friendly

    Enjoy!
