    Extenstions?

DH & I are thinking aobut getting an extenstion (sp?) just to give us a little breathing space & somewhere for the kids to play.
The problem is we have no idea where to start .
We are 'planning' on turning half of our patio into a toy room and then building a patio outside the sliding toy of the toy room for a nice outdoor area. The room would be about 4m x 3m.
So what would our first steps be? Who would be our first point of call?
All I have are heap of ideas and no idea what to do now .
    Thanks.

We've done 3 x extensions...adding rooms here and there - all at different times. I would call your local council.....find out what forms you need to fill out etc to get ball rolling..YOu will need plans drawn up for the impending extension....DH did our first two himself, but third one we got a draftsman to do it. PRices varied heaps between draftsmen, so shop around.
We had to pay a application fee - $200 approx....to council..Once we got the go ahead from council, we got the builders in.
DH is quite handy, so built our back room extension for a really low cost (we had to do a Owner Builders Course as DH was doing it....$160 i think). With our second extension, we had a bit of money, so we got a builder in to do it. He was referred by a family member. Whilst plans are in at council, i would get quotes too....HTH.
ETA We live in NSW...i dare say states will vary with building protocol.....
