19 weeks ultrasound - what to expect as i am so nervous

    Hi All,

I managed to get booked in with Dr. Sam Soo as i am moving from Queensland to Melbourne next month due to my husband job changed.

I heard he is good and moved to Melbourne from Sydney. Does anyone know him?

I chose Freemansons as well as the doctor office is in there so i thought it would be easier. What do you think about Freemansons?

Another question i would like to ask. I am going to have 19 weeks ultrasound scan this afternoon and i am really nervous. I hope i will find out the gender as well.

When i did 12 weeks ultrasound scan at Mater Hospital, i only got the baby pictures on (the flim) and i prefer to get a print out photo as my husband is in Melbourne now already so i can show him when i see him next week. Do they normally give you a print out photo of the baby or just the flim? Do you need to make a special request for it?

Is there anything else i should be expecting on this 19 weeks scan? I am nervous and excited at the same time.

    Many Thanks

    all the best to everyone

Look forwrad to hear from you all...

This would most likely be your morphology scan. Its just to check that they baby has developed properly.
I never had any of my scans filmed, I always got pictures. I had had about 12 scans, and got I think 8 pictures. But, not to scare you, my bub had a birth defect picked up at the 20 week scan.
Just make sure you ask for pictures.

This is an exciting time. If the baby is being good you should be able to get a really good look at the face, or at least the profile.
So much more to see than you're 12 week.

Hope everything goes well! And hopefully you can find out the gender.
We didn't want to find out with DD, but she was always in breech and there's no way the tech could have seen anyway!! :-)

Oh, and i also didn't have my bub at freemasons.
I had to have her Royal Womens in Parkville. I wouldn't recommend their antenatal care to anyone. But thats another story.

    Good luck!

HI!The scan is great!!!I was so worried with my first one i was litterally on the loo(there went all the water i meant to drink)but it was awesome!!They take a while measuring all of bubs, from heart to head to legs etc and just make sure everythings going as should be!I wanted to find out the sex and so the lady asked and we said yes!You can see so much and its really lovely so try to relax and enjoy!!Thats strange about the disc,i always have had print outs so im not sure with that one but all the best!

Don't be nervous, be excited!! The morph scan is the most wonderful scan. You see your little baby all formed, you see their little fingers and toes. And if you are lucky they can show you their face! They will measure everything and make sure bub is right on track and depending how well your bub cooperate you will find out the sex. They will also measure how close your placenta is to your cervix but dont be too alarmed if its close as it will have time to move.

I didnt get any pictures only the film.

    Good luck!!!

How exciting to be having your 19wk scan!! I was so totally excited when mine finally rolled round (at 21wks) that I couldn't wait to get there.... of course little miss wouldn't show us what sex she was - even after turning every which way and having a walk around!

I would say you should ask for the photos if you want them - I always got them without a film - maybe it's changed now? I would ask anyway and see if you can get them

Good luck - I hope you have a great time!!!

When is the best time to do 3D/4D scan?
When I had my U/S at they were able to flick between 3D and normal. Ask if they can do that.

I wasn't really sure that it was bub moving until my 20wk scan, where you can see bub moving and feel the kick at basically the same time.

I never felt any "flutters" really. It just felt like a "pop" to met. Like something, tiny, just popped.
Its pretty cool. I'm sure you'll see bubby kick at your scan and you'll know what I mean.

I didn't feel baby kicking until about 22 weeks. It is really cool when you do feel it.

best of luck with your scan

    Hi Mumma Mia,

The techinican said the bub looks fine and she didn't mention anything that i should have a concern about. But the full report hasn't come back to my specialist until 6th April and i will find out more details in 2 weeks time.

Said 90% it's a boy but i am not sure how accurate can be..though

anything else that i should be aware and concern? is there any other test i should do after this.

    Many Thanks.......

    Best wishes

Chances are if she said everything is fine, I am sure your bub is just perfect. The point of that scan is to see if anything is wrong

    Also YAY for a boy

No there are no more tests after this one unless something was wrong but it doesnt sound like there was so this will proabably be your last scan until bub is born. You could always find somewhere that does 3/4D ultrasounds though just for entertainment and to see bub again. A good time to do this is around 28-32 weeks

I did our 3D scan at around 28 weeks... because then they are pretty much fully formed but not so big that you can't see them! It was soooo cool! I would recommend doing it around 28-30 weeks if you want to get 3D done.
    ooh a boy! how exciting!!!

I'm sure the tech would have let you know if there was a problem with the little man.
When I had my scan everything was going well and the tech was really talkative til she got to looking at the umbilical cord insert. Thats where the birth defect was and she started asking when I was seeing my OB next. I said 2 weeks. She said see him asap. I'm sure they would have let you know.

I got a 3D pic at about 27 weeks I think. Its not the best quality, but its very cute. And very cool to see the bub as a yellow 3d image rather than just a black and white outline.

Sooo many congrats on everything being good, and having a little man!
Hope everything goes amazingly for you!

Thank you all once again for well wishes and suggestions. Yes I would definitely doing 3D scan around 28-30 weeks. Does it cost much? Yes, said 90% its boy so, i am thinking to ask the doctor when i next see him to check if he can but doesn't really matter....but just want to see if i should buy blue or pink

    Congrats to you all too..........
charlotte91: so what actually happened after you saw OB as tech suggested? Hope the little bub is fine now

I heard boys are a bit more hard to handle than the girls but its all good and we are very excited.....

all the best to you all .........

Well, my OB didn't have the results after 2 days so he had to ring the hospital to see what happened to them. Told me that the baby had her bowels out and that I'd have to go the Womens for the rest of my pregnancy.

All of DD's small intestine and part of her large intestine was floating in the amniotic fluid. So when she was born they had to stick them back in. She's had no complications at all.
It was scary, but its all worked out OK.
