We are about to move house () and from next Friday I get to start stacking things in the new garage. I'm hoping to go in on Wednesday when we pay the bond and try and do some pest removal from said garage.
I thought of just letting one of those bug bombs go, since it would all be closed up for a couple of days, and sweeping up the bodies on Friday.
Is there an alternative to letting off a big bomb? Or if not, something I can put down to just keep the critters away from our things. And in the house too.
Here is a list of (mostly) natural repellents for the little critters most of us don't want in or around our homes. From going through other threads in this section (only the previous 20 pages so far) and my own knowledge:
*Eucalyptus oil deters spiders I think.... ? And if you put a little in the wash with your towels etc, it helps keeps bugs out of your linen pantry? *Lemon oil also good to keep spiders away. Or, a cheap alternative to the essential oil, is to use citronella oil and rub it around where spiders go. As Danniellabella said:"I got some citronella oil and put some on a rag and rubbed it on my broom while I swept around my light fitting, door, window, built in robe, cornises (sp) and the floor of my bedroom and since then I haven't seen any spiders in my bedroom. Yet to do the whole house though. Also haven't had any flies of mossies (sp) in my bedroom either!" PS, don't use too much, the smell can be overpowering. *Bay leaves keep pantry moths away. *Bay leaves hung in an external doorway or a bay plant grown near the door deters flies from entering your house (thanks CrazyLady) *****roaches seem to need spraying (darn you 'roaches!) *Lavender in wardrobes to repel silverfish. *Growing lemongrass may repel mozzies *Ant sand or baits that ants eat and carry back to their queen (yeah, I know, its a poison).
Can anyone please suggest any others and I will edit the list as a quick reference for people if they want.
And then out will come the oil of cloves to get rid of any mould that I find in bright light! (We inspected the house without lights, and the kitchen is quite dark.... wondering what I might find )
