    Unhappy How long??

Say someone ate some ham at lunch that was possibly off, and that person has since spent quite a while on the toilet...how long could that person expect to have this exploding bottom?

Please tell me only a couple of hours...have three classes tomorrow

    TIA

Oh no - I feel so sorry for that person!

I'm not certain but I'd say they would wake up feeling a lot better tomorrow - I hope so anyway!!

    Good luck!

Usually you're looking at 24-48 hours but if you only ate a bit it might be less.. Drink up and try to get some sort of electrolyte drink into you. Also white rice can help to bind things together. Fruit makes it worse.
If your income depends on it then you could try immodium but it's not good because your body needs to get the toxins out as fast as it can and immodium interferes with that.

Thanks guys! I feel fine in between then it suddenly hits and I have to run to the toilet and ouch my stomach feels like its in labour!

White rice...is pasta similar? Was going to cook up a plain tom pasta for the kids...

    What exactly is Immodium?

I was just looking at a pack of gastro stop I have here that we took to Bali and thankfully never needed, but it say on the pack that it provides improvement from the runs within 1 - 3 hours. Maybe a couple of doses will help you by tomorrow.

Imodium is a medicine that stops gastro. It's not that great because it can prolong it but it can help in the short term if you really have to be somewhere. I think there are other anti-diarrhea medicines. A chemist should be able to recommend the best one if you need one.
I'm not sure if pasta would be the same as rice. Some people say that drinking the water you cook the rice in helps.

I was gonna suggest the cooked rice water thing.
But personally go with it. Chucking sucks but it might take just that to end it all!

    oh you poor love.
Hope you're feeling better soon, but sometimes vomitting is the body's way of expelling something quickly, so might be better to let your gut do it's thang.

A Dr once told me that blocking it from both ends is a bad idea as it's best to let your body get rid of it. Rest up and have some dry toast to nibble on so that you don't get worse from having a low blood sugar and use baby wipes on your bum!

Try some activated charcoal capsules (sold at the pharmacy as charcocaps or charcotabs). These work as well as Immodium but also have the added benefit of binding the toxins so they leave your bowel more quickly. It also helps reducing any associated gas pain. Take 3-4 to start with and then another 2-3 every time you have another 'movement'. Trust me this is the very best thing you could do .

You poor thing! Don't stop the hurling, get it all out.

Load up on breads pasta and rice. Avoid dairy and fruits.
