They should not have charged you for seeing her, they should have used Tenibear or your number and put thru as baby off. DS1 went to DR's with reflux before I had medicare card and that was what they did.
Glad she is ok
Hey all,
Amelia just had her first trip to the doctor's... Before you all freak out, she's fine! Or "normal" as the doctor said.
Anyways because she's only 2 wks old we haven't gotten around to putting her on the Medicare card yet, which meant it cost us $40 to have someone tell us she's "normal"! Does anyone know if Medicare would reimburse us? Or the fact they didn't give me a receipt negates it...

It was at the closest "super"clinic. They annoyed me by 1) charging and 2) making me have to go around to their pharmacy to get my note changed because they didn't have change! I was waiting for the pharmacist to tell me they couldn't change notes, I was gonna flip if they did.

Yeh they should not have charged you, should have been on your number. call medicare and see what they say or go in.
But I know what its like we had to rush around when DS2 was about the same age as he needed to go for his cord stump, and when I got the the GP they said theyd have put him through on mine anyway
That doesnt seem right, at the very least they should have given you a receipt, unless the $40 was the gap between what the super clinic charges and your medicare entitlement.
Think the pharmacist can count their lucky stars they changed your noted![]()
Well considering it was 10 at night, I'm tired and that was the one thing between me and getting a doctor to say she's fine... Yeah they were lucky! I understand the desk bot having change for a $100 but the look I got from the pharmacist was like "you're kidding right?"

We took DD to an after hours clinic back in Sept when she was one. We had to pay quite a substantial gap for the after hours privilege. Our normal GP bulk bills DD's appointments.
Not sure about the Medicare side of things though. Hopefully you'll get reimbursed for some if it at least. Glad little Milly is all normal though![]()
Maybe give them a ring back today. Sometimes the people on during the day are a little more flexible, or they understand that they can put her through on your card. We have awesome super clinics around here, don't we![]()
I found the After Hours Clinic next to the Northern Hospital really nice when i went.
It's surprising that we can apply for family benefits and baby bonus before the baby is born, but not some kind of Medicare note. Online it just says you do it when they're born, so I'll ring up.
Edited to say it appears the quickest way is to drop in at the Medicare office in person, when baby is born, and they give you a piece of paper with the new number on it? as per a number of other online forums.

I went up to the clinic when I was going to centrelink and explained to the guy behind the desk what happened and calmly asked for an invoice I could give to Medicare once she was enrolled, yup no worries 2 mins after walking in I was walking out with exactly what I wanted!

No advice just glad she's "normal"
I've gotta say, it's actually quite annoying being told that everything's fine when the past few nights - and even walking into the clinic! - I've had to listen to poor Milly snorting and choking to breathe through her snotty nose (she hasn't mastered mouth breathing yet, it seems...)
Apparently I'm all normal tooThe doctor spent more time checking me out than he did Amelia, and all I wanted was a quick reassurance that my bloodloss was okay! Don't know how checking my heartbeat helped, but meh.

Poor little poppet, DS had the same problem when he was a week or so old. Do you have a humidifier?
