Can the Family Supplement (annual payment) be backdated?

Apparently, there is some payment, i THINK called the Family Supplement, it might be called something else similar, that is paid to parents, each year after a tax return is lodged.

i am very curious if they can be backdated.

My ex is behind with several year's worth of tax returns.
So i have not been paid these annual sums for bilby.

IF X ever DOES do these blasted tax returns, will whoever pays out this Family Annual allowance (for bilby), pay out several year's worth of that? or do they expire?

I don't even get the one for 2012, because x and separated nine days after last year. if we had separated 29 june 2010, then i would get the 2012 payment, paid direct to me, for bilby. but no, we miss out by nine silly days.

bilby and i could really use that money.

separated, trying to start a new life, but x's financial irresponsibilities, still haunting me and bilby.

    Family Tax Benefit supplements

I didn't know it existed... But it would seem that if YOU get the FTB now, without DH, then you will be able to claim the Supplement after your tax return is lodged, or if you don't have to lodge one, you tell them and they pay it to you anyway....

They have listed the supplement mounts back to 08/09 so perhaps you can claim them that far back?

i can't get it , in my own right, until July 2013.

(because we separated 9 days INTO the current tax year).

i am sure he is still outstanding the 08/09 tax return.

He is aware (cos i spelt it out) that by doing this, he is denying bilby access to this money. I am worried they won't backdate.

Every year, i hear other parents talk about these payments, and when i go for advice e.g budgetting, the counsellors assume i have and have had access to these payments. no-one can believe X could be so selfish about this.

    thanks for the link Limey.

BG will be able to tell you heaps more than I can because she is a families expert and I'm not trained in that area...but I'm pretty sure they can backdate for 2 financial years.

you won't be able to do much for 08/09 or 09/10 until ex does his tax - if you were partnered at the end of financial year (june 30) then you have to wait. however, if you were partnered and claiming ftb fortnightly at the time, they might be able to look at supplements being paid based on most recent estimates. you just can't do a claim for the previous years as lump sum claims

for 08/09 you need to claim by june 30 this year (and ex has to have done his tax)

your 10/11 supplements will automatically be paid in july as you will have been on pps for the bulk of the year

Once you have both done your taxes. Can be anywhere from July through until two years after the end of the financial year, depending on when you submit your tax returns.

Not everyone gets it. There are income limits. And if you underestimate you won't get some or all of it as it will pay back what you e been paid in the past that you shouldn't have been

There is a thread about "600 per child". A lot of this is explained in there. Not feeling great today, but if I find some energy ill post a thread with links to dhs website and the relevant info there
