    Question *Blergh* tops of fans

Wondering what everyone's favourite 'everyday' kitchen item is best for cleaning the tops of fans? I have some gumption, hot water and elbow grease so far, but wondering if anyone has any particular magic "Grossness-be-gone" product they like to use???

Also- metho for windows? Yay or Nay?

Not sure of the fans - we don't have any at this house but I used to just use hot soapy water, but I use vinegar and paper towel on my windows. Works a treat!

I know you've done them but I tend to spray with spray'n'wipe and then put a pillowcase over them and slide it forward a few times. That way falling gunk is caught too.

A mix of metho and water is fine for windows. We use it at work when the kids' have used up ALL the window cleaner! (which they just LOVE to do). At home, I just use white vinegar in a spray bottle.

I vac all the loose dust bunnies off the top of the ceiling fans. I haven't cleaned them more than that I'm afraid. The bathroom fans, I pull the covers off (after again using the vac for the loose stuff so it doesn't all fall on me), then wash them in the laundry trough.

hmmm, yeah, our fan above our bed is mega gross right now but that's a job for DP. We have 10ft ceilings so a ladder and moving the bed is needed. I can barely walk one foot in front of the other not UTD because I'm so clumsy. No ladder for me lol.

I might look into the pillow case option although the blades look a tad long for it to be effective

I know... so gross!!! But done now, I'll try not to leave them as long next time!!!!

The best way it worked for me today was to wet them down with a wiping cloth... gumption with a wet wiping cloth- SCRUB (vomit) and them wipe down with a dry cloth. I made sure I put a towel down underneath so it caught anything that was big enough to fall. Also another tip- don't look up!

Got the top of the fridge and air con done too- then got stuck into the shower, mirrors and glass doors. Then wrote a list for tomorrow. DH is away until Friday, he's going to get a shock if it's all done by then!

nah, no boomerang pillowcases. We have a huge fan because of the high ceilings. I made DP get up and check the blades were all super tight because it spins so fast and I was petrified one would fly off!
