Can we transfer embies across state lines?

Has anyone tried to transfer embies from a Vic to a nsw ivf clinic? We are thinking of ttc #2 but it could be easier changing clinics to one in nsw so we only have to travel 45 mins rather than 3+hrs!

I seem to remember a post that suggested moving embies was hard so am interested in knowing if anyone has tried...or where I start to get info about what is needed?

    Thank

    Hi farmgirl,

I haven't transferred embies nor do I know anyone who has, but when we were going through IVF through MIVF we were in the process of moving back to Canberra. We spoke with our FS about our options and he was very open and supportive of transferring our embies if we chose to. Alternatively, he suggested we have all the blood tests, do the injections etc here in Canberra and then travel to him in Melbourne for the epu and FET.

Not really very helpful is it? Sorry! I would suggest you contact your current clinic and chat to them.

We're in the same boat and about to travel to Melbourne to discuss a FET - only have one frozen embie so decided to try MIVF again and if it doesn't work look for a
    clinic here.

    Good luck xx

We asked when we were going through things with MIVF. We wanted to know if we could transfer them to NZ and the answer was absolutely yes (this was important to us). I guess the rules are the same for interstate.
I would be good to hear from someone who has actually done it.

    Thanks for your posts.

I actually spent the morning on the phone today and worked out that there is a simple form to complete and submit to Victorian Assisted Reproductive Treatment Authority (VARTA) (formerly the Infertility Treatment Authority) (the form is one their web site for anyone who needs it) for consideration and then approval - which should be granted as we are a pretty straight forward case.

Now the decision is what to do - I've spoken to the Albury clinic and they seem nice, but I know and trust MIVF...it is just the travel down for scans that is the sticking point now that my work is not in Melb and that I have a toddler to consider.

On the upside at least this is a good delimma to have - many have no choice but to travel lots to get treatment!

Good luck lise - hope the FET goes well.
