Gl i hope it all comes back clear pls keep me updated..
which lymph node is it? my ds had 2 huge ones but i think it was his glands but if you pulled his head back these two huge lumps looking like golf balls stuck straight out it looked so bad!! he had a biopsy on them due to cancer being in both sides of our families and a number of deaths due to it, luckily he had nothing wrong but had his adnoids and tonsild removed to try and ease the pressure on his glands apparently (really cant remember the whole reson it was 9 yrs ago )
so i get how worried and stuff you must be
I had a needle biopsy done when I was a teenager, after finding a lump in my left breast.
It was very scary, but yes - was numbed with a local first.
It wasn't necessarily painful, but very uncomfortable and awkward, especially watching it on the ultrasound as he was doing it.
I think I noticed it when she was only young (2 or 3), but I remember 3 years ago I looked into it & read that it was common in kids, so just kept an eye on it.
It was about the size of a pea for years, but about the middle of last year it changed got alot bigger. Its on the side of her neck, towards the back, just above her shoulder.
In Oct/Nov last year it was even bigger, so we had an u/s done, but she'd had headlice & the doc decided we'd wait to stress til they were well & truly gone, because there might just be a reaction to them (3 were enlarged at the time).
It did settle again, but is still bigger than it was. Its changed a few times, & as he says, it should have settled, or disappeared altogether by now.
It really is just a precaution, but the 'what if's keep popping into my head...
I've had a core biopsy done under ultrasound (similar to a needle biopsy but it's spring loaded and much wider than a needle) on a lymph node in my armpit. TBH I don't remember it hurting at all so the local must've worked pretty well. It also seemed fairly quick and simple. I've also had a needle biopsy done under ultrasound on my breast - the needle they use is really quite a fine one and it's pretty quick. The ultrasound just means they can find it better and get in and get out pretty quickly.
we do these at work all the time. They do use a local anesthetic at the site first. In patients who are extremely nervous or unlikely to stay still, they often give some sort of relaxant or sedation as well. Midazolam is the most popular.
