Tax: the 20% rebate on expenses over $1500

OK, doing last year's tax return.

We ran up a huge amount of medical expenses last year. Mine for private birth and physio; DP's for dental.

Mine is well over the $1500 threshold, DP's is just over.

My question is, do we each have to meet the $1500 threshold or do we only have to meet it once.

That is, because I've met it will we get 20% back of DP's expenses or only 20% of the portion that he's over the $1500 by?

just once as a family...put it on the tax return that will give you the biggest rebate......add it all up together as a family expense deduct $1500 and then you can calim 20% of what's left...at least that's what our accountant does every year.
