Urgent advice needed - East Gippsland, Pt Fairy or Tassie

We've decided to have a break after Easter and are trying to book accommodation etc. We've been researching options, as I thought it would be interesting for DH to see more of Victoria and it's cheaper than flying to just drive somewhere.

I'm having difficulty researching attractions in the East Gippsland or Pt Fairy areas. I want to blob alot of the time, but we'd like to do a couple of day trips.

Tasmania has so much to do in each little area that we could fill every hour.

What is there to do in either East Gippsland or Pt Fairy?

I haven't been to Port Fairy for years (my Grandparents lived there). There's not a whole lot to do. There's whale watching from Warrnambool (30km away, but check the dates). Erm.... You can walk around the Island at Port Fairy where the mutton birds nest (its a very pretty walk, there are very sheltered shallow pools), rocks to climb over and the lighthouse (but you can't go inside). There is also the battery and cannons, surf beach, a more quiet beach and the pea soup. Further towards Portland there are the Crags (sandstone washed out rock formations, great photo ops). Not much to do in town, at New Years there always used to be the carnival, and joy flights out of the airstrip. Fishing charters and nice golf course too. Sorry, can't think of anything else, its been a really long time since I've been there.

Thanks Netix. Didn't think there was much. I just think it's pretty. We've done the Great Ocean Rd, so dont need to redo. I might concentrate on researching East Gippsland.

I live only 15mins from Port Fairy and it is beautiful town, it is great for an overnight stay or a day trip but not alot to do for longer than that.

Buchan Reserve for the cave tour, or nearby there are 'wild' caves, Cape Conran past Marlo is beautiful, hire a boat on the Lakes, Metung is a nice place to hire a boat from, Rail Trail through Nicholson to Bruthen, wineries, Lakes Entrance to buy fish, eat icecream, walk across to the paddle boats, see the surf beach, have a spa treatment at the hotel...I love East Gipp, my parents live in Nicholson and that's very handy!
ETA: Google the site called Explore East Gippsland - plenty of ideas and a calendar I have it bookmarked!
