We took DD to the doctors today for her cold and while we were there we got her measurements done.
Weight: 7.8kgs
Length: 72cms
Head Circumference: 42
DD was 6.8kgs at 6 months so im a little concerned that she has only gained 1kg in 3 months. I often have comments that shes so skinny and people asking if i feed her enough Thing is i feed her what she will eat and thats not really not alot. She has her morning bottle at 5/6 and another at 9/10 ive been told to give her solids for breakfast but she wont eat it she turns her head and cries until i give her the bottle. She will have either jar food or weetbix for lunch and jar food for dinner. She has half a bottle every time she has a sleep as she wont sleep without one. I will also give her fruit or bikkies (sao) for snacks throughout the day.
LMS - it is super common for the weight gain to slow down after 6 months and it's for heaps of reasons. One of them is that the babies are more mobile. Milk is still supposed to be the main source of food until 12 months so don't stress too much about solids. My DD is a couple of months older than yours and we stopped giving her milk first and her solids really increased. I know it's hard but it makes a big difference as it allows them to understand that food can be filling like milk as well. Have you noticed that she eats some things more than others? Ie - does she love jar food or weetbix or fruit the most? I found variety was the key, I just offered her heaps of different foods all the time and she slowly learned to eat them. It was a real learning process though and super messy.
With the weight thing though, I wouldn't be too worried. My DD weighed less than that at that age and not all children are going to be rolly babies If you are really concerned go back to the GP and ask if there is anything else you should be doing but I would just focus on making sure lots of solids are being offered and that she is drinking enough milk (which it sounds like she is)
I believe babies growth and weight growth starts slowing down around that age, well my DD did anyway.
If your baby is happy and content then she is getting enough, if she is moving around alot remember this burns energy too. If you wanted to up her meals you could reduce the amount of milk she gets and offer her breakfast with the remaining milk about an hour later? and gradually increase the portion sizes?
The problem is you cannot force kids to eat so really what else can you do?
Is she is happy and seems healthy I wouldn't stress hun.
My DD didn't start eating properly until 8/9 months. She is 21 months now and only weighs 9.4kgs. In the past 12 months she has only gained 1kg. She is super busy running around though and eats when she is hungry. She is happy and healthy and I think she has her Dad's awesome metabolism! (Lucky her!) Just do what you can but if you feel something isn't right, maybe take her to the Dr hun for another opinion BUT there are many bubbas out there who are just smaller than the "average" baby.
If she is weeing, pooing and generally happy she is most likely fine.
Isaac has been on or hovering around 10kg's for almost a year and the doctors aren't concerned (doesn't stop me worrying though ). I think it's pretty normal for thier weight to slow down a lot when they become mobile.
If you're still concerned though, go back and ask your doc.
Oh! The other thing is, was she weighed on the same set of scales? They can be very inaccurate... I've weighed Isaac in 2 different places on the same day and got a difference of about a kilo!
Sounds normal to me! DS has put on 900g in the past 3 1/2 months, 300g of that in a 2 week period! Before that he would do 200-300g a week! So it's slowed down heaps since he's started eating. I'd keep offering breakfast, maybe change what you're offering from time to time, or offer more than one thing, but I wouldn't be concerned at all. As PP have said, if the dr's/health professionals aren't worried, then try not to worry yourself! Easier said than done though, hey?
My DS struggled with weight gain until about 15 months, after which he's been putting it on like a champ. I visited the GP and a paed querying the poor gain (and even loss at times) together with lots of runny poos, and neither seemed terribly concerned. They said that as long as he was meeting his milestones, had energy etc there was not much to worry about.
As others have said she is more mobile and it's normal to plateau at this time. Was the mchn concerned at all? You are doing the right thing offering food then milk if she isn't interested. Both my girls were little and i told they were too small but the pead and mchn weren't concerned. Now Ds is a big baby and I get comments about that instead.
yeh i do remember that at the age where they start being more active with crawling and walking, their weight gain starts to slow down. it sounds fine to me, i wouldn't worry too much. kids at that age are quite capable of telling you if they are hungry, so if she seems content with the amount you are giving her, then that is enough. she'll whinge and nag at you if it isn't! Or at least mine did!!
