'But allll the other girls are....' *rolleyes*

Tonight I was standing in the checkout at Coles when DD came running to me with foundation and asked me to buy it. My reply was something along the lines of no, not buying it, you're 12 and don't need it. Her reply (you can probably already guess what's coming) But allllllll my frieeeendddssssss wear itttt!

So, not only do 12 yo's have boyfriends but they're also wearing make up

At what age did your DD's or yourself start wearing make up?

I only have DSs, but is your DD in primary school still or high school? From memory, and from friends with DDs, I know a lot of them started to wear make up when they got to high school (which for some is only 12) And from what I see now the 'fashion' is to wear LOTS of foundation, and IMO the wrong colour! ...maybe I'm just getting old and cranky

    Good luck

    Um 16ish? yr 10 or 11
But thats cos mum convinced me it would ruin my skin, and since I never had much in the way of pimples etc, and the other kids did, I believed her
Maybe if she is going to insist, and you are going to consider it (though I still think 12 is kinda young, but Im a geek and not "with it") get her a mineral makeup (powder one) or something instead that wont clog up her pores like foundation does.

I wasn't allowed makeup or to dye my hair until 15. Made my 15th soo special cause me and mum went to Myer, I got a makeover and my mum bought me all really good Revlon stuff (at that time Revlon was a special brand). The whole deal, foundation, powder, blush, eyeshadows, mascara, bronzer tinting stuff (not brown tho lol).
    I loved it!!!

Of course I snuck makeup but my birthday was awesome and I am planning to do the same with my girls

I was i think 18 when i started wearing full on foundation and dolling myself up. Otherwise i started wearing eyeliner and mascara when i was 15. And that was because all my friends were and they would do it for me at school and i would have to scrub my face before school ended as my mum wouldnt let me wear make up.

i think for my DD i will let her wear a little makeup for school discos and such but when she is in high school. And it wont be foundation just a little eyeshadow and mascara.

i just think young girls look ridiculous wearing make up... especially when its caked on.

My DD started wearing make up in Yr 7. We bought her tinted moisturiser and lip gloss. She now wears black eyeliner & mascara that she sneaks off her friends as we don't allow it. It looks tacky and I hate it, but what can you do? It's a stage and she will grow out of it. I will still continue to buy her tinted moisturiser & lip gloss though

LOL @ the wrong shade! DD brought over the darkest foundation I reckon there was on the shelf!!

Pandora, I'm so not 'with it' either

I was never allowed to wear make up and still don't lol

O i dread the day!!! MY DD is only 1 but i work with teenagers and they are a whole different breed to when i was their age!

from about 13/14 i was allowed to wear clear mascara or a little bit of black (i have blonde tip eye lash syndrome thanks to my mum so she was sympathetic!!) if i really wanted to and i had some face powder which i was allowed to use if i had pimples or something but other than that, i didn't really wear proper make up till about 16/17 i don't think!

o they want to be adults to early!!!! but i can only imagine how hard it is for them when allllllllllllllllllllll their friends are allowed to!!!

I still don't! LOL. Hate the stuff. Feel horrible and makes my skin feel icky.

But DD1 has nagged me since one of her cousins got one for xmas in 2002.. Odd that she would bug me since she had never used it before, never seen anyone use it, saw her cousin putting on eyeshadow, picked up some nail polish and promptly tried to put it on her eye. My DH and elder brother spent a good hour or so at the ER and heavily pregnant Inertia had her mum and sisters trying to calm her down so she didn't go into labour! LOL.

And yet, she has been bugging me since then - 6yo.

    Le sigh.

tinted pimple cream (seriously) around 15, but had bits and pieces of make up from around 8yo - the dregs of a red lippie from grandma, eye liner and mascara from being in a musical at 13yo, etc. Didn't learn how to use it properly until I was around 17 or 18 though.

Hehe i'm 24 and still don't wear makeup daily. I just hate the feeling of gunk on my face hehe
In year 8 my highschool had a 'boys & girls' day. The boys went to the local swimming/leisure centre and learnt about 'boys' things and the girls stayed at school and learnt about 'girls' things. The 'girls' things included a lady coming in and teaching us how to apply makeup!

A tinted moisturiser with at least SPF 15 would be probably the best idea sweets, its always good to moisturise your face and wear sun protection, so you'll actually be encouraging her to look after her skin instead of just wear junk =) I am sure Mum used to buy me a Ponds brand one but there is probably a lot more out in the market now. I am very thankful for mum getting me this instead, I am lucky to still have nice skin and good habits

Also, if you feel ok, maybe its better you get her a mascara if she's going to be borrowing it off her friends anyway, as you don't want her coming home with pink eye from sharing eye makeup! I was really into lipgloss as well, the funny thing is, every boyfriend i've ever had say they hate it! hahahaha
