i would think it may be infected - start doing what you can at home - gentle salt water wash etc and try and get into GP on Monday if you can before you leave
I had a tooth removed wed, it's been quite sore (as most are) and it bled for a little longer than the others had but i wasn't worried.
It's still quite sore and the gum is tender, when i look at the hole it's a bit red and it looks like there are 2 yellow/white spots in there, it doesn't seem solid it moves when pushed and i don't think it's the tooth.
DP says my breath is far from nice.
So is it infected?
Can a GP prescribe antibiotics or do i need to go back to a dentist?
The dentist is in the city and we go away on holidays monday, we have BBQ's and family catch-ups tomorrow and i couldn't get hold of the local GP today.![]()

Thanks babe, i thought it might be.
The GP should be ok to deal with it yeah?
I started a salt wash and will do it a couple of times today and see how i go.
DP was telling me i was just being a sook, but now he's like ewwww your breath is FOWL![]()
yeah GP should be able to help if it's clearly infected (and it sounds like it's obviously showing signs)
It sounds like an infection to me. The GP should be able to help. Just let him know you cant get back into the dentist for a while.
Oh sweets, I do hope it's not the start of a dry socket. Be very very gentle with the salt water rinsing, but if you start getting gritty stuff coming out you will need to get back to the dentist to get it packed. And get a script for painkillers.
I've never had much pain with a pulled tooth so an infection is quite possible. You could also have what is called a 'dry socket' when the clot that forms falls out and this is very painful. A GP can give you a.b. or go to the local hosp if it's really bad.
There is an after hours GP service (bulk bills too) next to the Northern hospital if you want to see someone tomorrow.
Hope you feel better soon
yep sounds like dry socket...you need to see a dentist to have it packed with special stuff if it is dry socket...id go to the dental hospital emergency
if it is dry socket (only the dentist can confirm im affraid) then ab's wont do anything, but it could be an infection, what pain relief do you have??
dont take asprin, try mersydol if you have it or nurofen, rinse your mouth VERY carefully and STOP touching/pocking it, any extraction site will be sore
is the area throbbing?
I'm trying not to touch it, I've been taking paracetamol and it dulls the pain.
The socket and surrounding gum is tender and sore, it's not throbbing but sometimes it's very noticeable.

id take something stronger and definatly an anti inflamatory, id say its dry socket over infection (at the moment) id ring your dentist monday and get reviewed, will only take a few mins
Thanks Hun, will see if DP has nurofen, otherwise nothing stronger except his endone. Might call dental hospital tomorrow, drop him and the girls at fils and go in. Damn it hurts!

ZF, I had dry socket issues last year, the oral surgeon told me best combination for dental pain is nurofen plus panadol. Just make sure you don't take too many (you can take fewer nurofen per 24 hrs than panadol).
Thanks ladies, hopefully I will get in tomorrow. For now I've taken one of DPs panadeine forte, no nurofen and paracetamol wasn't cutting ithopefully i can get a good nights sleep.
Is it painful getting it fixed, is it quick? Recovery time etc?

It was much more comfortable after the OS had packed it with stuff (tastes a bit funny though because it's got clove oil in it - but far better than the stench of decay). Mine was (and I quote) "one of the worst" the OS had ever treated, so it went on for a bit, had to get it packed every few days for a couple of weeks, and extremely painful every time more crap fell out BUT I had one years before which only needed to be packed once then healed over nicely straight away (which is what they are supposed to do). So hopefully it will be pretty straight forward and well on its way to healing in a couple of days.
