It would really be a good idea to get the hard floor tool for the slate floors, regardless of which model you get.
We had a dyson barrel vac, the base model. It was really good, but it was also heavy, for me used to upright vaccuum cleaners, lugging it around the house was a strain.
It worked well though, no issues with performance at all.
I love my Dyson. I'd marry it if it were a man. Seriously. Nothing works better.
I have a multi floor barrel vac. I use the hard floor tool for all my polished boards, and the carpet tool for the carpet in the playroom. I don't think I've EVER used a broom since I bought my Dyson.
The vacs are so much better for allergy sufferers/asthmatics as the dust on the boards is sucked up by the vacuum instead of being swished around by a broom.
I also have a number of other tools that I use too - upholstery tool for curtains/sofas, long tool for behind/underneath cupboards/furniture...
You'll never regret buying a Dyson. My parents bought one after they saw how fabulous mine is.
I have the multi tool barrel model (yellow). I love it! I have majority wood floors with just carpet in bedrooms, so I use the hard surface tool alot - like Divvy said, much better than sweeping.
I don't have a negative comment about it really - so easy to empty, filter very easy to clean. And you can usually pick them up for around $350-400ish on special.
